Default first track event

I ran my first track event with SCDA today @ New Hampshire Motor Speedway. I had a great instructor for 3/4 of my runs and he recommended me to move up from novice to intermediate group 1 for the next event. Needless to say, I am hooked! My unofficial best time reported from the stands via Iphone was 1.311. Lots of traffic in the novice group.

Welcome!

Check out Harry's Lap Timer on iPhone for more accurate lap times and other telemetry.

That is an excellent suggestion! I only wish I would have done that for my first track day...let me tell you how much fun it is watching your gopro videos and then writing down the time each time your pass the same landmark and then doing the math on it...LOL

Welcome. We'll look forward to meeting you at the freeway on ramp. Bring your own sign. I use one that says "Track Addict needs money for next set of Hoosiers"

Welcome to the addiction! Don't forget to add many books on road course racing to your library. The expertise shared in the many volumes adds greatly to the fun.

+1 for Harry's Laptimer.

Here is a lap from the app on an Iphone 4s. Have the phone mounted on a RAM mount which is attached to the back of a Brey Krause harness bar.

See, there you go...there's the second sign of track addiction...one event a month...you think you can stop anytime...but the sad reality is, you can't! Next thing you know it will be two a month...and so on...

Whatever you do, do not keep a running tab of how much you've spent on your new addiction. Your wife will find it and the resulting arguments will make you wish you slept with her sister because with that, at least you could stop.
Your co-workers will find out and complain to your boss about how much more you must make than them.
Your non-track friends will find out, likely from their wives via yours and you will be the subject of ridicule. The upside however is you will drop them as friends with reason as opposed to "sorry can't make that, got a track day that day".

..but it will be a blast.

Welcome to the track day fun.

I still maintain it's less time consuming then golf and that's how I sell it to my wife.

Prepare to have fun and spend more money than you think you're going to spend...

Set a yearly budget on what you are willing to spend on this and try your hardest to stick with it. Just watch how your mind rationalizes increasing that budget....

This is it in a nutshell. Last year I started in HPDE1 and in October I go to comp school. Consider that before you start dumping thousands into your current street car.
