Never seen a setup with such an extension before between a stage. What is it for? I'd think the motor mount would need some serious modification to make that work.

V,

This setup was on an LS6 that I think was built by Guldstrand.

This was not on engine at time I purchased car as car came with wet sump LS6 and I swapped my already built dry sumped LS3 into the car.

I just kept it as a spare. i have not checked clearance issue with motor mount but I know it was installed on my present car with a built LS6 at one point in time.

Most likely its an air/oil separator.

But nevermind, the plumbing isn't right for that. maybe they needed to space out the last stage for clearance purposes.

Jim,

I believe you are correct. It appears that end of 1st section and narrowing occurs at start of motor mount (apparently for clearance).
