Default What Size Rain Tires Do You Run?

What size rain tires do you run when racing and why?

What brand and model do you use?

Racing or track days?

Oli,

305 Hoosier wets.

Reason - I had 275's prior and I feel the 305's have more grip. Run about 4 lbs more pressure than normal pressure in Hoosier R6's.

Thanks JR. Why did you not go to 315s?

In talking to couple of engineers they felt the 315's were too wide based upon car weight and weight distribution (49/51). I.e. they thought the 315's would hydroplane easier and not displace the water as quickly as 305's. This is obviously dependent on the amount of water on track.

I have no independent testing to validate this.

That is my thinking, too. I too do not have any data to validate this either.

I was unable to convince Bob Woodman Race Tires to bring Hoosier Wets to CoTA for the SVRA Vintage Championships, so I ran sticker Goodyear Sports Car Specials (dry tires) and they worked pretty good in the wet at that track (I only spun once at turn 19). HOWEVER, in the (wet) GT/GTP Enduro, there were F1 cars, P1 and P2 Prototypes, and Indy cars all running full slicks! Very scary place in the wet. Yes, there were multiple drivers, who had incidents attributed in part to the wet track.
