Default Grease All Over The Place ... Photos LR Wheel

2007 C6 Z06 Stock. 30K miles. So it looks like my CV boot is leaking? Maybe around the outer clamp? I have a HPDE at VIR on Monday and Tuesday. Just found this tonight.

OK to run both days and fix this later in the week? Or is all the grease gone and it would be stupid to run on the track? Appreciate advice.

I think the last thing you want is to be going 120+ and have the axle finally dry up and lock up. That is a lot of grease and looks like it is most all gone. Also, clean up to avoid grease on the brakes.

I carry a spare axle for a C5, you can borrow if it will fit. Look for #92, pewter C5 FRC. we should pull in tonight around 5:30. Cobalt Blue Chev truck, aluminum open trailer.

I agree with the above poster. I know it will screw up part of your season finale event, but better safe than sorry. You do not want to run that axle without grease. Way too much chance of a lock up at high speed which would be disasterous. Scour local dealers for replacement, it only takes an hour or so to install. Get that greasy mess off the brakes asap! If it gets into the pads even minimally they are toast and will need to be replaced.

If the grease is there then it certainly is NOT where it should be

I had the same problem. The hole was small enough that I used an epoxy and zip ties. I also pumped in more grease before I sealed it up. So far, so good.

Interesting potential solution, Steve. Innovative. And I hope it works for you long-term. Thanks for sharing. I have an extended warranty that should cover the repair, so I'll probably hit the dealership.

I would not put that on a track.

Thanks for the kind offer. Probably going to give up on driving car on the track this time and will end up at the dealer with my extended warranty.
