LMP1: the internal combustion engines have no air restrictors or capacity limits

While it has been testing for some time but until now the cars exact specification has been a secret. In 2014 the LMP1 category has adopted a Formula 1 style fuel flow limited formula which places the emphasis on energy efficiency rather than on outright performance. Unlike in Formula 1 there is great freedom in power unit configuration in LMP1, the internal combustion engines have no air restrictors or capacity limits which has seen Audi opt for a diesel fuelled V6, Toyota for a normally aspirated V8 while Porsche has opted a two litre turbo charged V4, an unusual configuration.

not sure i love the limited fuel flow, would prefer to see a set amount of gas or gas equiv. Something like 250 gallons of gasoline and 220 gal of diesel. Or whatever. Leave the car unrestricted to promote the teams trying new whacky ****.

Is the flow limited or just the amount? There was limited fuel in Group C (racing, not in qualifying) in the 80's and everyone thinks that was nirvana.
Too bad the price of admission is in the 9 figure range these days...
