Default TPMS on new track wheels/tires

It's probably been asked a thousand times, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

C5 (fixed roof coupe), I'll be running 18" x 10.5" C5 rears all the way around, and my car does not have competitive driving mode.

My question is this: Do I need the TPMS for my ABS to work properly? I'm sure my active handling won't work, not that I'd want it on the cone course anyway, but I do need to drive back and forth to the track about 30 miles (the tires, if it matters are NT05's).

Should I just suck it up and buy more TPMS sensors?

I chose the "suck it up" route for my C6 and am having the sensors cloned to match my stock ones.

I'm hoping not to have to roll that way, 2000 TPMS's are overpriced!

But $240 felt like less than the hassle of debugging the nannies.

FWIW Orange claims these will work:

TPMS do not effect the ABS, only the active handling.

I've heard about bad things happening in the C6 without them so I have them in my GS track wheels/tires.
I haven't had them in my C5 for over a year and all I know that's happened is the annoying DIC alarm.

C6 needs the sensors or have them close to the car when paddocked.
C5's can go w/o sensors and it will not affect anything of concern.

TPMS do not affect the AH/ABS. Autocrossed my 2000 w/o them for over 10 years and no effect. If you are starting autocrossing, you might want to start out with AH on and find out how "not-smooth" you are. Then put it into competitive mode and learn how to be smooth. When you can run in CM without activating them then you are ready to run with AH turned off.

TPMS isn't tied into the ABS/TC/AH systems on the C5. They didn't do that until the lawyers got involved with the C6 and the federal rule that required TPMS on all 2008 and newer cars. When you see the TPMS warning on the DIC just reach over and push the reset button and you have your normal DIC display.

If you aren't a smooth driver AH or even Comp Mode will slow you down since it is trying to correct all of your errors. Once you get smooth it doesn't intervene as much but on a 60 second course it could cost you a second. Whether it is an advantage or disadvantage depends on the course. There are some courses where it might improve even an experienced driver's times since it can do things a driver can't do themselves (apply a single brake to rotate the car or to keep it straight). Smart drivers learn how to use the throttle and steering wheel to control AH and what courses the capability can be used on to beat their competitors.

Remember that on a C5 the Z06 didn't even come with TPMS. Not having it on a coupe wouldn't be an issue. If you have access to a techII you can even shut it off to stop the DIC alarm.

I went the other way around and used the techII to add it to my C5 Z06.

I pulled the steering sensor on my Z06 and am running with no TPMS and AH doesn't intervene (because of no steering sensor) - this is as per mikymu's thread -

I thought if you don't have Comp mode, you don't have Active Handling, you only have Traction control.

I have a 99 FRC and my track wheel don't have TPMS. ABS works fine on/off the track, along with TC and AH and COMP mode.

Traction control is VERY invasive is you ask me. I think you will want it off

You are correct, it's Traction Control, not Active Handling....sorry about that.
