They media blast the rib BEAD for better grip, wonder if they get slow leaks?

I think the problem was in the original GM blog posting.

Finspeed did it on my wheels too, and it helps. No leaks. The better way to do this is to actually knurl the rim where the tire bead sits.

Does helps mean they still rotate some?

Mine do, but with the amount of lube my tire guys smear on it's no wonder.

Here is a good shot of the knurling we use:

Hmm, those look absolutely identical to some wheels a friend just purchased.

On another note, flying car mode!

Chevy marketing is showcasing design flaws and problems that have already been solved as "features" and "innovations."

Tire slip and roughing up the rim has only been going on for....ah......30 or 40 years.

I think these young engineers have been brought up on Prius type cars.

"Wow, tire moving on the rim, never heard of that."

The main cause of slippage is when the wheel is over-cut on the lathe, removing excess material from the bead seat and reducing the OD of the bead seat. When you combine a wheel that is over-cut and a tire that is on the big end of the spec, it will move.

You're talking about slipping wheels, I'm talking about flying cars. I really do like your logic though, I hadn't thought of it that way. I don't think it's the engineers so much as the marketing team reaching out to people who've never encountered this phenomenon and GM trying to overemphasize how sticky their factory supplied rubber is. Think of it as the existence of Z/28s selling V6 base cars.

I used Permatex High Tack in the can with the brush on my drag car, brush it on the bead dry and mount the tire.

Comes off just fine and it wont rotate.

My a6's on stock rims always slip, but not 360 degrees
