Rear tow hook for C6
Ordered a tow hook for my 2005 C 6 and during the install the mount holes did not match up. Seller said the Z51 option I have is causing a problem, I called bs and now I am stuck with return shipping cost. Thoughts?

The hook bolts in the holes the two inner muffler hangers bolt into. The holes in all of the C6 frames are the same so it doesn't matter which car you have. There are 4 muffler hangers bolted into the rear cross frame rail behind the mufflers. From the rear of the car the right side of the hook will bolt into the inside hole for the passenger side hanger and the left side will bolt into the inside hole of the driver side hanger. You may have to loosen the mufflers and twist/move them forward or totally remove them so you can get your hand in to get the bolts started. Getting the mufflers hung in the rubber holders again can be another PIA.
The two red circles in the attached diagram show where the holes are located. There is a bracket that bolts to the holes and the 4 triangular items shown in the picture are rubber muffler hangers that slide over a bar on the bracket and the muffler tabs are placed into the hangers.

Small world, I just tried installing the VMS rear tow on my 2008 Vette and yep it does not fit, I tried to measure the hole pattern on the rear frame and it looks to be about 6-1/2" where the tow hook is around 6" max.

Had one put on today. It took almost three hours. You do have to loosen at least one muffler, pull it forward and get the mufflers free of the rubber hangars.
At that point it still is not easy to get the bolts back in between the back of the mufflers and the frame hole location. Very tight space.
Once you do all that, have fun getting the rubber bits back on.
The room you had to take them off, well that's filled by the hook.
It is a surprisingly hard job.

Yeah, it's not easy, somehow I lucked one bolt back in the first couple of minutes, the second bolt took about 25 minutes to find it's hole in the frame, and all kind of crazy positions under the car, I only had one side lifted and I'm lowered.
Congrats, check that on off the list.

I have the Pfadt tow hook on the rear and a VMS hook up front.
Pain in the *** job to do the rear hook alright. Skinny fingers and skinnier wrenches plus a good dose of patience are key.
