Default oil temp via OBDII - '03 c5z06

I am using one of those mini blue ELM327 bluetooth OBD readers with my Android and RaceRender software to assemble track videos. I can get tach, water temp, intake air temp, throttle position, but can't seem to get oil temp. I don't know if my model/year doesn't send it across, or this chinese made reader doesn't pick it up or what. Anyone know any tricks?

Most readers can't pick it up. Check with Torque Pro if you can get a reading.
On my 05 Chevy truck, I could not pick it up with the mini ELM327, I had to use a full size OBD reader.
I'll check on my 02Z to see if I can get the data once it is ready to fire up!

Right, I was thinking of trying this one

Amazon Amazon

but don't want to drop the coinage unless I know it will work. Guess I could try and return it if not ...

Oil temp is not available via OBDII. I've tried, tried multiple OBD readers. It's just not sent out on the serial line.

Isn't it communicated to the IPC over the Serial Bus??

Is it not sent or do we just not know the PID?

Not sure it helps but according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs ...

hex 5C, 1 byte returned, Engine oil temperature, from: -40, to: 210, unit: °C, formula: A - 40

I can't see the PID with Torque Pro or HPTuners. A tuning-pro friend is going to bring his EFILive cable to work tomorrow to see if that will read the sensor.

I can see the PIDs with Torque Pro but the values always return 0 for engine oil temp and engine oil pressure. I seem to have some values coming in for trans oil temp but I haven't been driving the car to see if it's reliable or not.
The coolant temp works though, so at least this one can be captured.

Oh, and a followup to my question of whether or not the PID is known, I should clarify that what I meant was - what are the chances that it is on a different PID, and not the SAE listed one? GM has done that before.......

I data log every session.

All the info I've found is that GM is not using the SAE listed PID for oil temp on c5 z06.
