Repaving of The Glen is on
It was announced Wednesday that the repaving of The Glen has been given the go ahead.
The Boot will be repaved first. Plans call for work on The Boot to begin in July, I assume right after the running of the US Vintage Grand Prix (July 24-26). Repaving of the short course, is scheduled to start, right after August's NASCAR weekend. Work is expected to be completed in time for the 2016 season.
No word on whether the various concrete patches in the turns will remain, or be eliminated.

Melting Slicks
That's great.
I miss being close to the Glen.
I almost got involved in "Pave the Point" years ago. The owners of Sears Point offered free testing for life for a $1,000 contribution.
Of course this was before Burton bought the track and before Nascar.

Will be interesting to see what happens to their schedule prior to the start of the project. I suspect there are clubs that typically visit only post the start will be disappointed to miss a year @ the track. Money talks, so we'll see.

It seems from the statements made they are not going to repave in the spring like they did in 98. That turned into a mess when the Busch North Series ran there and screwed up the new pavement. That is when the concrete strips were added to the corners. I was at an HPDE a few days after they finished grinding the concrete. I had a Torch Red 97 and when it started raining the concrete dust covered all of the cars in a fairly thick syrupy mixture. When I got home the car was almost pure concrete gray. However, those concrete patches had lots of grip. 17 years later they are nicely polished and slippery when wet.
Hopefully, the new pavement will get rid of the humps and dips in the braking zone going into T8. I always had a hard time braking the C6Z there if the speed got close to 130. It was like the tires were only on the ground half the time.
