Default TommyMilner sub-1:30 around Road Atlanta in the C7 Z06

I don't know Road Atlanta. What are some of the respectable times around that course in ST2, T1 and GT2 race cars?

Looking at Nasa East Champs results, Ben did a 1:26 in TT1 and Greg did a 1:30 in TT2. Is it just me or does it look like the C7Z acceleration is a bit sluggish for 650 hp? Maybe it's all the extra weight.

My quickest lap times are right at 1:35 @ DE events here (with traffic). This is my home track and have over 2000 laps here so know it fairly well. One thing that stood out to me is that I am faster on the back straight with less power and much slower thru turn 12 coming on to the front straight (by 14 mph!!). Same story on turn 1. Obviously the downforce is working well thru the fast sections but crushing the top speed.

SCCA laps records:
GT2 Pete Peterson 1.27.876 March 16th, 2013
T1 George Winkler 1:32.712 March 17th, 2013
http://www.atlantascca.com/events/cl...track-records/

1:29.xxx is impressive for a stock car.

In this story Andy Pilgrim does the driving and explains what you are seeing.

The car on slicks will be stupid fast as it'll make even better use of the downforce before running out mechanical grip. Should be interesting if a mag tries it out.

Extremely impressive time for an off the showroom car with everything and a warranty etc etc but........ in before the masses start with the "it's no faster than a 15yr old narrow tire C5 with all kinds of stuff I don't want to admit to but I built in my garage and its faster so im better than GM engineers at doing anything.......and its too heavy"

Here's how I look at it. Sperkins in TT3 ran a 1:29xx in a C5 full blown race car.

As everyone knows, race cars often have crazy aero, cages, stiff suspension, and are stripped to the bone often out handling stock cars by a large margin with slicks.

If you can take a bone stock car off the showroom and go run a 1:29 with a seatbelt and an automatic and then go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee then I think that is VERY impressive. I can't imagine what a race seat and slicks would add to the equation.

I thought so too but I really think it's the aero doing it's work. I'd be curious to see a 1lZ Z06 on the back straight versus 3.

Don't forget the ideal December weather for that C7Z lap. My lap times (and top speeds) were absurdly/maddeningly influenced by the morning vs afternoon weather (a shift of only ~12 degrees). I would absolutely love to get back down to RA in December, when temps are ~50 degrees cooler than in August. Some day.
FWIW, my car was not properly setup aerowise for RA (too much downforce), had ~470rwhp and saw a slightly higher top speed vs the C7Z (which has another 100+rwhp). An ST1 C6Z with milder aero and a claimed ~570rwhp was demolishing me on the straight (prob approaching 170mph).
Long story short, I would have thought the C7Z would have another 10+mph on the backstraight than in that video. The sub 1:30 lap time seems to be a testament of the OEM tires more than anything else.
As far as lap times, I think Mark is pretty confident about getting deep into the 1:29s with essentially a stock C6 Z07 (a full interior etc car driven to the track) w/Hoosiers....and ~200rwhp less than a C7Z (TT3 compliant).

That lap was run the day after Petit LeMans. First Sunday in October.

Thanks. High of 74, low of 48. Didn't hit 70 until 1pm and it was overcast. Still pretty good weather. People DE'ing these in summer heat may likely be giving point bys to C6Zs.

Well that's dumb. They didn't even have a C7Z06 on display. Huge display, SRT even brought a Hellcat, Corvette couldn't bother to bring out a C7Z, then RUNS ONE the day after the event. that's just sad.

Still a really impressive lap time. but I think some stock GT-Rs have run that or faster with a non-pro driver. I wonder if it will be the same as ever, the car is really fast but takes a really skilled driver to get it going fast.

Indeed impressive.

However, I don't think it's really any quicker than the last gen C6 offerings if you put them on the same tire. I would guess +/- similar lap times.

I think the "oohs and aahs" are simply because nobody has ever really done a video/social media PR rollout at RA before (with documented lap times/pro drivers). Hopefully RA will become the new ring times

And it is too heavy and heat soak looks like it will be an issue. Awesome Starbucks car though.

Would love to see Rd Atlanta as the new ring..
