Starting Pressure and Wheel Protection ... Again
Now I'm even repeating my own threads!
I'm ready to try something to protect my rims during an HPDE. Which do you like:
Plastidip Spray
Flexidip Spray
Duplicolor Custom Wrap Removable (also a spray)
I'd spray it on the rims (barrel and centers) the weekend before going to the track and probably remove it the weekend after doing two track days.
Wheels are currently heavily waxed.
Next question:
I'm finally retiring the old BFG KD tires and making a big step up to NT01's: 275-40-17 and 305-35-18. Anyone have an idea of cold / hot pressures to get me started (will be at Summit)?
Thanks!

I would caution on the wheel coating. Unless you can apply like a paint booth, you will throw your balance off. On the tire pressures, I would take a conservative start at 31 front and 32 rear. You will probably bleed air out during the day to keep the tires from getting over pressure. Generally tires on track do best when they are in the 35 to 37 psi range hot. Any more than that, they will get greasy because they are only running on the middle of the tire. Lower than 30 and they are running on the outside edges. Never run Summit, so this is from running about 6 other tracks in the southeast. Just my .015 worth. Jerry

I've been running my stock C6 Z06 chrome rims for three seasons without any issues or damages. after a couple sessions they look like crap but they always clean up nice with a little rim cleaner.

IMHO Tracking a car and being way to **** about wheel finish just wont work out well for you in the long run.
Cant see plastidip working on wheels exposed to high brake temps and red hot brake dust.

Forget the PFC pads, they really screw up rims. Switch to the Wilwood H compound pad. They offer great performance and the noncorrosive dust will wash off with soap and water.

Agree with the wilwood H idea, or try carbotech.
Armor All makes a spray on wheel protectant. Spray it on a clean wheel, it makes it easier to clean later. Works pretty well. Probably a little better than a few coats of wax. But if you're going to make a habit of this I agree with above, get a set of track only wheels.

Switch to Carbotech pads problem solved. If interested I will be happy to help you.
