NOTE: AS OF MAY 6 ONLY ONE SHOWING OF THE RACE IS SCHEDULED!!!
SO IF YOU MISS IT YOU HAVE MISSED IT!!!
NOTE: LIVE QUALIFYING IS ON CNBC ON SATURDAY MORNING!!!
1. THE TIMES AND DAYS FOR THIS RACE ARE DIFFERENT, SO PAY ATTENTION!
2. THERE IS ONE SHOWING OF THE RACE THIS SUNDAY.
3. THERE ARE THREE SHOWINGS OF QUALIFYING AND TWO SHOWINGS OF PRACTICE.
4. NOT ALL SHOWINGS ARE ON NBC SPORTSNET THIS WEEKEND.
The post-race show "F1 Extra" is shown immediately after the race show
whatever time that may be. NBC schedules "F1 Extra" to start 2 hours after
the start of the race but, in reality, it's always shown immediately after the race
irregardless of the clock. The simplest way to make sure you record "F1 Extra" is
simply to add enough extra time to the race broadcast recording to get (a) any
extra time that was needed to record the entire race including any delays, and
(b) "F1 Extra". My standard is to add at least three hours (!) just to make
sure I cover most eventualities.
I pull this info from from my Tivo's schedule. I have no guarantee that
it is correct but it usually is. I also double check it with the NBC Sports
NET schedule.

Thanks for all these reminders.... If not for your posts, I'd probably miss half the races.

Hey, Z, thanks for keeping us up to date. So, what did you think of the race? I thought Hamilton's change in strategy, and his execution of it, was pretty sharp. Alonso's brake failure manifested itself in a really scary way, and what about Grosjean's front jackman?? And the shot of him holding an ice pack?
Have a good one,

On ESPNf1.com Wolff said that the team was actively keeping Rosberg and Hamilton apart.
Toto Wolff: "As Lewis was building the gap he needed ahead of Sebastian in his third stint, we actually compromised Nico a little bit by leaving him out longer than optimum before his second stop. This made sure the two cars didn't trip over each other on track..."
I have no doubt that the Merc brain trust wanted Nico to win this to keep his psychology healthy. On the other hand, they did Hamilton's strategy change to get Vettel behind Lewis. They definitely out race-crafted Ferrari this round.

All-in-all, an interesting race. Tactical (as usual) but at least somewhat interesting.
On another topic...
Last week Mark Webber did a bit with Fox Sports Australia where he offered his suggestions on what F1 needs to get back to where it should be. I'm going to quote the article here. Read carefully and be amazed/shocked.
"Webber believes Formula 1 cars should be capable of recording lap times that leave no question over their place as the pinnacle of four-wheel motorsport.
“Formula 1 should be 15 seconds (a lap) clear of any other category and as drivers and spectators you should experience nothing else like it, it should blow you away,” Webber said.
“But currently you have at least two other categories that are within two seconds in a race. Maybe we should enter an F1 race with a WEC car, we might score some points and we are 250 kilos heavier!
“I’d love someone to do a stat on race pace with the 2015 race compared to the mid-2000s — probably Montoya would have lapped Seb in Malaysia three and a half times!”
It sounds like he’s exaggerating, but Webber’s guess is actually less than what the numbers suggest. Vettel’s Ferrari would have been outgunned in the 2006 event.
We did the math based on the quickest full-distance Malaysian Grand Prix in history, the 2006 race won by Giancarlo Fisichella in 1hr30m40.529s. Vettel took about nine and a half minutes more to win this year’s race, cutting out the time lost by the early-race safety car.
All up, Fisichella would have lapped Vettel almost six times by the time the Renault driver completed the 56-lap distance."
Here's the full Webber article: http://tinyurl.com/l5py37g“Formula 1 should be 15 seconds (a lap) clear of any other category and as drivers and spectators you should experience nothing else like it, it should blow you away,” Webber said.

And on that same topic - Roberto Mehri in the Marussia qualified in last place on the grid some 5.5 seconds off of pole. But here's the kicker - his time would have put him last on the GP2 GRID as well!!! WTF? Gives what Webber said about "15 seconds" some real punch, no?

Drivers OUTSIDE the cars would have complained a lot before now ("it's been ten years now, Christian...")
While McLaren have not actually explained "why now?" most folks think that Honda wanted to distance themselves from the Mercedes silver look.

And here's what Bernie has to say about tomorrow's clutch meeting (from Adam Cooper):
Bernie Ecclestone suspects that very little will get agreed in Thursday’s
much anticipated F1 Strategy Group meeting, where rule changes both
for the short term and for 2017 and beyond will be discussed.
...
"I think we will spend probably four or five hours in that meeting," Ecclestone
told this writer. "In the end we’ll probably decide the date of the next meeting.
The problem with us at the moment is we’re a democracy. It’s no good.
"You know I don’t like democracies, because you’re never going to get a
bunch of competitive people to agree. The ones that are winning at the
moment don’t want to change, and if they start becoming losers, they want
to change. That’s how it is. So we’ve got to get in a position where we can
make a decision and say, 'This is how it’s going to be…'"

History is with Bernie on this one, unfortunately.

2014 Formula One payouts
From Autosport today:
Details of Formula 1 teams' 2014 payouts revealed
By Dieter Rencken and Lawrence Barretto
Wednesday, May 13th 2015, 12:20 GMT
Ferrari received more money than any other team in Formula 1 for the 2014 season due to the championship's current payment system, details of which AUTOSPORT can reveal.
At the end of each season, Formula One Management collates revenues from three streams - hosting fees, media rights and "other" such as trackside sponsorship and hospitality.
It then distributes 65 per cent of the underlying revenues among the qualifying teams.
However, while 50 per cent of those revenues is distributed to teams based on their finishing position in the constructors' championship, the other 15 per cent is split between Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren and Williams - in the form of a premium payment.
These premium payments were agreed by the five major teams by way of bilateral agreements in early 2012, ahead of the expiration of the Concorde Agreement.
So in 2014, Ferrari received $67 million for finishing fourth in the constructors' standings, $25 million less than champion team Mercedes.
But the Scuderia received a further $97 million in the form of a premium payment, bringing its total revenue to $164 million, more than any other team.
Red Bull, which finished second in the constructors' championship, received a total of $156 million - the second highest tally - with Mercedes third overall with $126 million.
McLaren, having scored just two podiums on its way to fifth in the constructors' championship, was the fourth best paid team with $98 million.
In contrast, Williams, which finished third in the constructors' championship and scored nine podiums, was fifth overall with $83 million.
Force India finished one place and 26 points behind McLaren in the constructors' championship but it received $38 million less than the Woking-based team.

Opinion: making a crappy sound louder is not an improvement.
To my knowledge there has never been a performance V6 motor that sounded good and I suspect that nothing short of a high-tech audio system will fix this. On the other hand, the manufacturers could add subliminal advertising to the broadcast exhaust sounds - "C class, C class" as Lewis goes past...
