Default Who's Going To Hallett?

It's the NASA TX Summer Shootout. Don't think I'll win the pistols this year, but they're on my to list for sure. Any Corvette bubbas coming? I know a few did last year.

I was going to go for the first time but my car's clutch assembly exploded on the front straight at TWS during qualifying on Sunday last month, severed the fuel lines and the car burned bad enough it's a total loss. Still not sure if I money shifted or it just let go shifting into 5th. Car would have been easily repaired had it not burned.

Damn, no fire system? Or did it catch fire in an odd spot that the agent couldn't reach?

I sold my car last weekend and it was supposed to be at Hallet for this event, but the new owner had trailer issues on the haul from GA to OK and had to leave it MS. I doubt he'll have it back in time for the event.

Not sure where I'll park, I just hope I can make Friday practice. If so, I'll get a decent spot.

I'll be sitting out this event, too much going on the week prior. I would barely make it to the track in time. Hopefully I'll be back out at Msr Houston in September. I drive the blue #225 c5z in st3/tt3.

I think I remember your car from practice on Friday last year. If I can make practice this year, I think it requires an all nighter (with a nap in the middle) to get there which I'm willing to do.

I did have a fire system but it wasn't enough to put out a fire spraying fuel at high pressure. Took thr truck about 3 minutesto get to the car.

Im tired of watching those guys race each other. Ive got my eye on a car that might give those guys a run for their money.

And in the NASA Speed News a guy blew his system and a bottle on his car and still couldn't put it out. I'm losing faith in my system now too. It's almost as if we should carry a flare to deploy any time our cars catch fire so the corner workers catch on sooner and show up with the big bottle.

I had the exact same issue happen at the Glen two years ago. Brand new clutch let go, fuel lines cut but I shut it down in time. Fire system wouldn't have done much but my hand held bottle allowed me to get under the car and keep it somewhat under control until I got another bottle from the corner worker and then the fire truck got there. I have both (full system and a hand held fire extinguisher) in the car now. Cheap insurance for the extra weight.

I don't understand why the pump kept running? The car kills the pump when it sees the engine has died.

Does it? I don't know if does or not. I had left the ignition in the run position and forgot to turn the kill switch. The concensus from my corvette guy is that the pump fueled the fire. I'm waiting on pictures from the event, apparently the photographer doesn't have a download option and I have to wait for a disc to be emailed. But once you see the flame, you can bet it's more than plastic fueling the fire.

I will post a thread on this incident once I have the pictures, i've probably hijacked this thread enough already. I'll post up in this section here soon.
