Default C7 tires for auto cross

What's a good tire for racing in the stock tire class. Just bought a set of Z51 rims. Not a lot of choices for the rears.

Look into Hankook RS3. They dont have exact C7 stock sizes but there are some pretty close ones and its an amazing tire.

I assume you mean street class and street tires. I just went through this with a friend and his C7 Z51, he ended up using the -1" wheel diameter allowance, and put 18/19" repro C7 wheels on his Stingray with Bridgestone RE71R's 245/40-18 and 275/35-19.

That's the only competitive option. The RS3 will work but is quite a bit slower.

Yep, though I don't know that a 245 on the front is what I'd pick (assuming that wasn't a typo).

No typo. He picked the 245/40-18 vs. the shorter 255/35-18.

How wide are the front wheels? My knee-jerk reaction would have been to run the 275/35 18's.

Actually why not run the stock size front and a 19x10 on the rear?? Then go with,

255/35/19
275/35/19

Given the 8.5's up front I think it'd be a toss up on 275 vs 255. If (like Talon suggested) he ran 19's at both ends then 275/35's could at least be dismounted, rotated, and then mounted again.

FWIW and all that, my 275/35 18 71R's are pretty square on a 9.5" wheel so I think they'd still work OK on an 8.5" though they'd be a little pinched.

Default C7 tires for auto cross

18's and 19's from a reputable repro company. All of them balanced well. It's the same company that a friend of our uses and he been trying to break the curbing with them at Waterford for quite a few years. According to him.

The car rotates quite well in stock form and after consulting with some guy they call "Heinrocket" we opted to keep the balance of the car close to stock form concerning O.D. And width.

Not saying we won't adjust the setup down the road but this was what we felt like the best decision based on what we have done with the C7's this far. He is even going a little more conservative with his setup on his C7 regarding tire widths. He will be on 18x10's and 19x12's once we finish his setup.

Stay tuned...

Default C7 tires for auto cross

We have a set of 275/317 A7's for his car even though we had been told that we could easily accommodate a 325 or 335 on the back and a 315 up front.

The 245/275 setup feels like a good balance right now but I haven't been able to put it through its paces at an autocross yet.

Wanted to stay in the street tire class. Don't know what to do. Hard to find tires for stock Z51 wheels

Default C7 tires for auto cross

Well, based on every piece of data I've seen, getting another set of wheels is the cure to get good tires. Nobody has a 20 in performance tire that competes with the re71r and Rival S. Maybe a set of shaved PS2's but for that kind of money you can get another set of wheels and tires all together. That's what drove my setup and decision. Along with some great input from a few people, that is.
