Default Track Hot Oil Pressures

Hey guys. I ran the car pretty hard today in 92* weather. Got my oil up to 262*. I run Redline 10w40 with DRM oil cooler. I just wanted to run my oil pressures at idle by you guys and see what you guys think. Do these look normal for supercharged LS3? I know the temps are pretty good considering. Probably still gonna add a fan to the cooler.

At idle
262*-23psi
232*-30psi
220*-36-38psi
Cold/warm startups are usually around 45-50psi
At 262* oil temp my coolant stayed in the low 230s

Pressure goes up with rpm. Cruising low rpms with 262* oil temp I was seeing 35-40psi or so.

In my LS6, that's about what temp and pressure I see running at the track. I've never seen oil temps north of 265 and I run the DRM oil cooler.

Sounds ok to me.

Takes 7-10 psi of pressure with zero load at idle to keep the crank floating and not touching the bearings at a bare min. While the 10psi for every 1000 isn't set in stone, still a rough guideline to follow.

That temp with that oil you should be fine....if it starts creeping over 280-290 you should change it after the track weekend.

FYI oil filters affect oil pressure dramatically! I see 10 point difference from brand to brand! G/L

Which filter gives you the most, and which the lowest pressure?

I've been running the GM racing UPF filters.

The fan may possibly interfere with effective air flow at speed. We don't even run one on our engine coolant radiator at the track (racecar). Don't need it.

I just moved my engine oil cooler to the area behind the driver side brake cooling duct. This allowed me to get more airflow to my trans cooler, intercooler and radiator in front. Even though my engine oil temps have been good, the cooler doesnt get as much air as before. I want to test temps with the fan in there and see if they go down. Its worth the $60 to find out.

Ive never seen that big of a difference but I'll compare after the next oil change. Currently I have an AC Delco filter on there but I have a Mobil1 filter on the shelf I'll probably use next. I use to use K&N because the nut on the bottom made them easy to put on and take off but I started noticing that sometimes the nut and bottom of the filter were getting damaged on canyon runs probably from unavoidable rocks and stuff.

Agree...I think the only rce car we have had that used a fan was the GTS Aston's.

That is true. I guess 262* oil temp on a 92* day ain't too bad.

162 is a little on the cold side...if it is that cold using a 40w then you need to probably go to a thinner oil if pressure is ok to do so.

If it is 262 then your right there.

The ALMS cars would run 190-220 water temps and oil temps in the 240-265 range all day long.

What is your pressure at 6000 RPM?

Some good reading here:

Also, I know you guys like using Redline and I currently have Redline 10w40 in the car. Recently though, Redline's 15w40 was recommended to me because I'm running e85 100% of the time. Supposedly it'll help against fuel dissolution and have better shear protection at high temps. What would your opinion be? Thanks

I believe that thread was for a wet sump system while my ls3 is wet sump with the c5 batwing pan.
I want to say my pressure at 6k is past 60psi. I believe I've seen it past 70 at my 6500 shift points
