DRM Bilsteins vs 2004 Z06 shocks
looking to replace the shocks on my 02 Z06. Im looking for a set that will come up under $500, but want to maximize performance for that price range. Right now the car could use some help putting the power down, especially during corner exit. It seems to me that it boils down to these two. The 04 Z06 shocks could be had a bit cheaper right now, but DRM bilsteins are within budget and if they would be better then I would go with those.
Also the car is a bit lowered on stock bolts, not sure if it makes a difference, and its sitting on c6Z rims and tires, stock sizes.

I would go with the 04 Z06 shocks without a doubt. I've been on those for 2years now. I just ordered some custom made Koni 30 series shocks that I hope will be better then the 04 Z06 shocks. If they are, I would be amazed.

I think I've seen a couple videos of autox runs you have done, were those with the 04 shocks?

I currently run DRM's on my lowered C5Z. I don't have my jacking point measurements handy, but it was set up by Mr. Popp, about two finger gap with 315/35-17 tires on stock front wheels. Prior to Danny setting the height, I pulled my shocks to remove the dust covers and inspect the bump stops, which were obliterated in front. I installed cut-down stock bump stops (approx 1/4") from the '02 Z shocks. After the ride heights were set by Danny, I installed zip ties on the front shock shafts to check the travel, and it still hit. Now, I am guilty of pounding the brake pedal which probably doesn't help; I have to remind myself to squeeze the brake. I need to zip tie again, and recheck without hammering the brakes.

The main problem with the Bilsteins is the shock body is to long. You will bottom out sooner then 04 Z06 shocks. Which by the way, I removed the bump stops from my 04 shocks.

Is that for fronts, rears, or both? A photograph I have from acrace shows a DRM rear lined up next to C6Z and ('02) C5Z rear shocks, and the DRM is the shortest body of the three. I was under the impression that OEM C5Z shocks were the same dimensions regardless of the year.

About 10 years ago I order a set of Bilsteins. Either the front or rear I can't remember had a longer shock body. I decided to return them. I'm not putting on a shock that can bottom sooner. Check out this link.
