Default Need a Snell 2005 Helmet

So I'm going to do a PCA autoX and they require a Snell 2005 helmet. I bought my current one in 2005-2006. But on the back of the helmet is says Snell 2000 !!!! Is this the rating? There are tags on inside of helmet but I can barely read whats on them. Is there a certain place, color of tag or some way to know for sure what the helmet rating is?

If I need a new one I would like the same one. Open face, medium sized G-Force. Where should I order it?

Ebay you can find good deals on new or very lightly used helmets...especially older ones. Current spec is 2015. I would get a 2015 or you might be able to snag a 2010 for a really good deal. Other than that just google it- I haven't ordered from any sites but looks like there a lot of good ones.

The helmet rating (which is the year that the helmet manufacturer models passed the Snell tests, is usually an orange label with white lettering. Motorsports helmets have a "SA" prefix while motorcycle helmets have an "M" prefix. The label should be visible by pulling back the lower foam padding. Some labels are clearly visible.

Helmet ratings are done every 5 years (2000, 2005, 2010, etc.) and most motorsports associations will accept the current and prior rating year. Some will go longer than that as long as the helmet is in good condition.

The SA205 helmets are on sale now and some manufacturers will have clearance sales on the 2010 models. Try looking at the websites for G-Force, Pyrotect, Bell, or Simpson.

Thanks, your post is very helpful.
I think I bought it in 2005 so being a 2000 might make sense. I guess I need a 2010 as a 2005 will not be usable next year at PCA I was told.
But I will look fro the label you discribe.
And now that I remember its a Bell helmet.

I'm surprised that PCA would still accept an SA2005 now that the SA2015 helmets are certified and available. I have an SA2015.

As has been mentioned, most organizations will let you run with a helmet of the current certification period, or the one period prior - i.e., SA2010 or SA2015.

So....get at least an SA2010, but there's no reason not get the SA2015 unless the 2010 is really cheap!!

Look for the certification label like below:

Thanks everyone for your advise.

I got a SA2010 Snell open faced like my current one but a different brand for $119 shipped from Amazon.

Open face?

4 out of 5 dentists recommend a closed face helmet.

Don't worry about it. I take my dentures out and put em in the center console soon as I put my helmet on.

Darren never checks but PCA evidently does and my helmet is so old they wouldn't let me run without a newer one.
