Default Dixie Tour report... it went well.

1-2 in A-Street, top index on day 1, 3 on index day 2. Overall top index for the event. First event on the plan B setup (Rival S in A-Street vs. Hoosier's on A7's).

Wanted to see what's what and make sure I know what changes to make and pass along to my customers when making such a change between tires. Good news, not a lot. But there are tweaks to both the car and the way I drive it. Going back and forth this year probably will help keep me on the ball.

All in all couldn't ask for a lot more from the weekend. Rain held off for us, saw a lot of customers and friends too.

Sorry, no video. My camera was being very cranky. Working on that for next week and on.

That's what I call a smackdown! You and Randall checked out on the rest of the field index wise too!

Congrats Sam.

I was listening to the feed (while watching 12 hr race)... coming from FL I had a lot of buddies competing. I thought top PAX would go to you, Ian Stewart (FL), or David Marcus (FL). There was some serious talent at Dixie.

I follow STU closely, as that's my class. Looks like they had damp conditions on Sat. AM that kept most of them out of top PAX running.

Just waiting on my 285 RE71R's and my Borg Motorsports bushings for this year!

I was there for my first national event and saw you laying the smack down on everyone. I was driving an ES Miata since the vette isn't competitive yet (neither am I for that matter). I was hoping to catch you with a free moment to say hello but it didn't work out. Maybe next time!

Had no idea you were there! Damn. Things can be busy that's for sure. I had time but you might not have. Hope if you got to watch it was at least entertaining!

Nice runs Sam. Hopefully I can make out your way to try and get some runs in with you this summer once I get to Connecticut.

Ya, that's my fault. I meant to take Luke over and introduce you two, but in the craziness with that tire of mine it totally slipped my mind.

Glad you got home safe. Still not sure what was up. Was it a puncture? Oh by the way, your rear sway bar just left here headed your way.

I got the note on that, thanks.

Turns out the valve stem core was leaking. Got home safe, thank you, and put 2 brand new tires on yesterday. Going to reduce the front camber a little. Don't want to be buying new tires every 3 months. Shame too because the car just loved loved loved all that camber. but my wallet didn't.

I've found it's the combination of camber and any toe out at all that kills the inside of the tire. You actually need to run a very slight bit of toe in to keep that from happening. Probably toes out slightly on the highway.

I was running toe in, just a touch. I did raise the front of the car slightly not too long ago. I neglected to check the toe after doing that. Being a rear steer that probably toed it out more than I expected.

Oh good. I thought maybe it was that or the TPMS nut being loose. Remember I mentioned that in grid? It happened to me before. Looking at the tires I'd definitely back your front camber down a touch (what are you running?).

yes you did mention it, I remember.
I'm running 3.3 across the front, with 6.8 degrees of caster and .09 toe IN on each side. That was before I raised it about half an inch. I bet that change swung me over to about the same mount of toe OUT. I run the re71's at 31.5 to 32 lbs of air when I autocross. 35 for daily use.

Rear is 1.5 degrees of camber and .02 toe IN. the rear are wearing nice and even. 28.5 autocrossing, 35 for daily.

Great job sam! Paxing a big event in a vette is really difficult.

Wow, I could get that camber. Don't want it (car won't stop and really it doesn't need it anyway). Try maybe around -2.7 or so. Caster is fine. And zero toe. See how that works for ya.

I'd up the rear toe to about 1/8" in in your case given what's up in front, the bars you have/will have, etc.

Thanks Chris.

I'm not sure what to make of it. I've done well there before, but this was the first time on "street" tires, LOL. I changed one freaking thing from the Hoosier setup, front shock settings. I'm happy about that and the result because it further confirms what's working else where (same setup of mine was 1-2 in both AS and SSR last year @ Nationals).

I drove well, not say exceptionally thought. I dunno if that PAX number is a complete joke or what is going on. I guess I won't know until I can back to back test both tires. I know the SSR number is well set and if anything tough. I think the AS number is a bit weak.

What was your laptime comparison between the Rival S and the A7?
