Default C6R, C7R, Daytona Prototype AP brakes. Anyone mental enough?

Has anyone gotten a hold of the ultimate monobloc calipers for their C6 or C7, let alone any road car? I know the new Radi-Cal Pro5000Rs are an excellent choice but I like to push the limits and go for broke with top-of-the-line parts. For me, this is simply pure, unadulterated ****

These calipers are milled from a solid piece of billet aluminum into absolute masterpieces, both from engineering and aesthetic standpoints. Titanium pistons standard, dry break fittings standard, carbon crossover ducts standard, NO external crossover pipes, 100% internally ported, wow... I want one just to hang up on the wall!

In addition to the C6R, C7R, and DP Corvette the same calipers are/were used on (that I know of):

IMSA BMW M6 GTLM
Subaru B4 Japan Super GT300
Lexus SC430 Japan Super GT300
RLL E92 M3 Lemans
FIA Ford GT
BMW Z4 GTLM
HPD Lemans Tequila Patron Prototype
Acura Lemans HPD ARX-02A
HPD Lemans HPD ARX-03A
IMSA and Lemans Flying Lizard 997 GT/GT2
Nissan Lemans LMP2

Quite the pedigree that this AP Racing system has, don't we agree

So who here is as crazy as I am in this world of homogenous thoughts, boring lives, and Starbucks coffee?

Got a guy selling a AP dtm set up on the c6 for sale. Awesome brakes. I have the above stop techs and they work great for me.

Stoptechs are definitely more than adequate performance wise but I have a penchant for top shelf stuff. A car with the appropriate parts in place is art in motion for me.

I was quoted around $6,700 EACH caliper by Essex. Try $26,800 in calipers alone!

The AP DTM forged monobloc calipers are nice but these are a couple levels up above on the food chain.

Screamin Z - do tell! Fronts only? Matching rears as well? Did you get them new or second hand?

Last season for the DP in IMSA, so there could be some spares coming up for sale, as the teams move on.

Where is the best place to keep an eye out for spares and how much do you wager new spares (or used) would cost each?

Fronts and rears. New. These will handle the stickiest tire you can stuff under a vette.

Where did you buy them and how much was the cost per caliper? 380mm up front and 355mm rear?

Yes on the rotor sizes. Price? Way too much! Bought them from Essex. Took quite a while to get them shipped from Germany. Had to have Finspeed design rotor hats and caliper mounts. Also a 3D printed caliper duct to feed air to the rotor and caliper.

Does the $6,700 each caliper price tag coincide more or less with what you paid? Shipped from Germany? I thought AP makes most all of their products in house in UK.

No it wasn't quite that much. My calipers won't fit such a thick pad that the pro teams require for 24 hour races.

Edit: Now I know why you were quoted a much lower price. Those are not the same billet monobloc calipers. The caliper you have is a DTM spec CP6665 forged aluminum caliper with SS pistons, which is at least a couple of grand cheaper, per. The CP6160 is billet monobloc with titanium pistons, SS mounting bosses, standard carbon duct, dry break fittings, and are in a totally different league.

CP6665

I could tell by the machining finish, anodizing, and extra weight savings measures AP took with the higher spec Lemans/GT/FIA spec calipers.

CP6160

Non-Baller here. I bought the lowly AP C5 Endurance package.
Stops my 435 rwhp C5 on a dime and never fades.

Honestly though, how much better are these than the AP endurance setup? It's marginal at best I would imagine.

I will let a much more knowledgeable brake expert chime in. Paging Jeff Ritter!

Off the top of my head:

-less unsprung weight
-runs up to 390x36 iron or carbon-carbon discs
-much lower thermal conductivity with Ti pistons
-better heat management
-stiffer for better pedal feel
-less pad changes being 30mm thick
-drop dead gorgeous 😂

But all of that comes at a substantial cost difference.

Quick Reply: C6R, C7R, Daytona Prototype AP brakes. Anyone mental enough?
