They should be fine. I bought a set of R compound Nittos, never used and 2+ years old, and they worked fine. Didn't pay retail because of the age of the tires. I've been told that tires begin to degrade on day 1 whether they're mounted and used or just sit somewhere. But If they've never been run and stored in a reasonable environment, I'm guessing that degradation is a minimal amount within a year or two.

Depends on if they have some true roadcourse heat cycles?

A couple true heat cycles to start the cooking process and then stored in a Mississippi garage for a couple of summers and they will be rocks.

If you are trying to win a W2W race, they are toast. If we are out to have fun, they're great. I was out on 2012 Hoosier A6s last weekend. Had a blast. Still better than fresh R888s. Just keep in mind that they are not going to be as sticky as fresh. Ease into it and you'll be fine.

Tread depth sounds about right for new. The ones I bought were stored in the guy's basement. That's a pretty constant environment, but as someone else mentioned, if they were stored in a hot environment like a shed, I would probably pass.

All tires are great to learn on. If you drive your car to the limit with 600 rwhp, fresh R888s will only last 3 laps before they grease over and fall off. It's good to get used to driving with variable traction, every race driver has to master it.
