Default HPDE Tires

Picking up a 2nd C5Z just to use for HPDE's and set up as a track oriented car. I've been looking at tires and discovered there isn't much available these days in stock sizes for regular street/track. I've been using only RComps for many years on my current C5Z.

I was hoping to run Re11's, but it look like I would have to go down a size (255/17 and 285/18) for the OEM wheels. No sizes available in RE71R. I get a killer discount on BS tires, so they are my preference. Also looked into RS3's and no sizes there either.

What are you guys running on the track in the 200 treadwear category?

Has anyone put the 255/17 and 285/18 RE11's on the OEM wheels? How is the fitment? I see it technically works according to BS, as 10.5 is the largest wheel for the 285's, but I'm very particular about things fitting properly. Anyone have photos of that setup on OEM wheels?

Thanks!

Both of those sizes exist in the RE71R. I'm not sure who's telling you they don't.

I have pictures of a 285 RE71R on a TSW Nurburgring 18x10.5 rim. They're below:

I was looking at TireRack. Looked again and yeah...definitely missed. Apparently didn't have enough coffee this morning.

They look like they fit just fine. Tiny bit of stretch, but good to go. So I have the option of using the RE11 or 71R. Great! I've been using the 71R's on my current track car (BRZ), but have no experience with them on a C5Z. What are your thoughts so far? How many track days are you getting out of them?

common size for c5 z06 wheels is 275/40/17 front 305/35/18 rear.r888 and nt01 are in those sizes and are pretty good dot track tires.

A friend of mine only got 4 hours of track time out of a set of RE71Rs on a very well prepped BMW M3. Expensive for HPDE.

Friend in Atlanta had the same experience with his M3. The common consensus is the RE71R is a great track tire, but the 200 wear rating is for show only so it can be used in several amateur racing series.

It is obviously a great autocross tire as well. Just not sure it is good for HPDE.

Affirmative, I turned a set into hamburger in one weekend of HPDE.

I had the same results with the RE71R on my BRZ, which is why I'm also looking at the RE-11's.

Get some 17x11 rims and run 315/17s at all 4 corners. Car will be fantastic on the track. I used to run the Kumho 710s in those sizes. I was able to rotate tires and got great wear out of a set of tires.

Unless you're running Hoosiers there are pretty much zero tire options in 315/17 anymore. You'll want to run 18" wheels to get decent wider tire options.

If you have a dedicated track car and trailer it why not just get slicks?

Slicks will make you fee like Superman. At least for a while.

I've been tracking a BRZ for the past 3 years and that's what I learned on. I've gotten pretty good at making a slow car fast, and am very smooth, but don't have my head in the clouds when it comes to thrashing a ZO6 on the track.

It's not a dedicated track car and it won't be trailered. I'm just looking to put some nice 200 treadwear tires on the thing to get some track time and some experience with that car under my belt. Not terribly interested in trying to dominate the field on a set of slicks my first time out at an HPDE. Surely some of you experienced folks can understand that.

I get a great deal on BS tires, so when I find that 2nd Z for the track, I'll likely be running RE-11's for a while.

Hmm, this is disappointing. I was planning on making the RE71R my next tire. Using them up in one weekend isn't something I'd be comfortable with.

Perhaps the Michelin PSS would be the better investment with the higher up front cost?

If you're fast and it's hot out the MPSS will likely chunk at full tread (just like a lot of street tires). I thought there was a new one coming though?

I've had great luck with the MPSS, they lasted me 13 trackdays. I did get a little bit of chunking on a 97* day though.
Like others have said the RE71R's don't last. I nearly used up a set of 285/30-18 RE71R's in a single day at the LS Fest.

I'm liking nitto nt-01's on my car. I have 315/30/18's for front and rear. I've only run them at two events so far but they performed well. They are 100TW and I'm not sure about options for the stock front wheel. They are also no Bueno in the rain.

There is a lot of information on this forum about tired. A quick search would land you a couple hours of reading and feedback.

Yeah, the RE-71R's are pretty disappointing IMO.

I would look at Hankook RS3's and Bridgestone RE-11's before committing to the Pilot SuperSports.
