Default My version on improving Seibon hood

Seibon is much lighter then OEM but very flexible.

So to strengthen it, individual cres wire mesh was formed/laminated to each slot opening, two types of heat reflective shield was installed as well as laminated at all seam for positive captivation and additional T6 aluminum shield laminated to protect alternator's exposed winding.

Still lighter then OEM, sacrificing little additional weight, there is no flex even when press hard against top of the widest slot or any part of the hood.

While I admire your ingenuity, flex is really not an issue. You should see how much some real race parts flex.

People have had this hood over 200MPH, also many miles on the street and bumps of Sebring with no ill affects.

The only reason I can think of to go to a vented hood is for maximum road course venting to bring down temperatures. It might not look it, but say 2x2 wire mesh that only restricts 20% of an opening restricts the air flow 50%. Hold a chunk outside the window at speed for a demonstration it is surprising.

Of course in Hawaii you may have to give more consideration for pesky critters sliding into the openings than cooling? Roasted lizard stinks-don't ask how I know!

I agree with blkbrd. Flex is no big deal.

If you don't like to watch the flex maybe go back to OEM.

Also, if you want flex come to Sebring. I think my whole car flexs. Ok, it does. I have a love hate relationship with that place. Might be why I like Homestead at least once a year.

I don't know about the flex issue, but that is nice work.

My 04 stock cf hood has some flex & when I first got the car I was concerned as I was used to stock hoods not flexing. Then I just got used to it.

Thanks for all the opinions.

Strengthening the fragile vent is for the rare occasion when car is parked away from direct view. Lessening chances of mishaps from curious minds passing by.

Much the same as the T6 shield for the alternator's exposes winding from the unexpected rain.

The only flex mine has is at the back in the middle section, but it is no different at 65mph then it was at 180mph.

Few don't mind flex...

One guy out to show how my .032 cres wire mesh restricts air flows...

One tells me go back to stock...

Lol

Well...I addressed the flexing issue to my liking and reasoning. Certainly accepting the possible escaping air restriction...if any...from the .032" cres wire mesh....LoL!!!

Unreal!!!!!

I guess they didn't realize you were the only one entitled to an opinion on the matter.

No one was bashing you. I like the protection it offers. Id replicate it if I wasn't so lazy.

^^points well taken!

Always can learn something! But condescending feedback adds up to nothing constructive.

It lets others know it's not mandatory, but a viable option.

You have to realize that you posted this in the road racing section. You have detracted from the performance of the hood by adding weight and reducing airflow in order to reduce flex that doesn't hurt anything. Since you live in HI, your car will never see a race track so for your car, the function has probably increased. This is why the comments seem condescending to you, when in reality they're informative to someone who might actually track their car and consider buying this hood and copying you.

Great summary.

493 checked, majority moved on and 6 posted similar opinions! Mr. Froggy posted the kindest comment!

For those like similarly design carbon hood but don't like flex, LG's well known WC hood has a structural brace molded to enhance rigidity.

Regardless of brand, for my intended use, a barrier of wire mesh and effective under hood shielding are important.

Whether it is agreeable/or not to anyone....It is my cup of tea!

The bolt on hood does, as it has all of the latch mounting points and hinge points. The race version, which has nothing under it to reduce as much weight as possible (pin on version) will flex quite a bit.

you can see the race hood move around a bit in this video:
