Default Chumpcar anyone??

I'm looking forward to my next Chumpcar race in just over a month!!! Super excited!
Last year I rented a seat with a top local team in a well sorted Miata powered by a 2.4 Ecotec. It was by far one of the most exciting races of my life.

How many guys here has done it and how did you like it?

Here's a video of me driving and FTD lap.

I did a Lemons race last year and am working on getting the cars in shape with my friends for this year. We have two b13 sentras almost ready to go.

I have done several, with a few different cars. The teams I have been on have all had slow unreliable cars. When the car is running it is very fun to mix it up with so many people on track, but it costs so much to keep the cars alive I would rather race the Vette which has some speed. Also, they will let anyone buy a license to run Chump and not everyone should be allowed on track. There were many times I got hit or close to hit because others are not aware of their surroundings and do not know track etiquette. At least at SCCA or NASA events more people have an idea what they are doing, or should be doing.

I've run a couple of lemons events in an E28 BMW 533. VERY well prepped car, frequent winners... Agree about the squirrel factor! The disparity between speeds and between driver talent levels is frightening, especially at the start.
It's worthwhile to get the car as bulletproof as possible. If you can survive the initial chaos, the amount of track time available is amazing. I probably developed more racecraft in 1 event than I did in 2 seasons of BMWCCA racing.
I recommend it, but watch out for squirrels!

Did a bunch when chump was just getting running. We had a kick but sentra ser but kids and life has gotten in the way the last few years.

The car is actually forsale and basically needs a good once over and some minor updates for the rules and its ready to go. It needs the trans gone through - think the limited slip is failing. I would also put it on a frame rack just to make sure its still square after about 10 endurance races. I would also swap in a fuel cell or add a baffle to the tank. We put a new fuel tank in and it wasn't baffled like the factory ser one so it can't quiet make the 2hr mark without fuel starvation in the corners. Google Bare Metal Racing - should pull up some photos etc.. If serious I can put you in touch with the current car owner. (we built it as a team of 4 but after about 5 races - one of the members bought out the rest and ran a few additional events)

Im on the same page as RusherRacing, did it the first 3-4 Chump started, build a fast UN-reliable Camaro, then a slower Escort ZX2 that was amazingly reliable. Still have the Camaro, once kids are out of daycare hope to get back to it!

Think of it as 'sweat equity' racing.

I've been very fortunate to drive for a competitive team in a well sorted car. And that really makes a huge difference. No way I would attempt to go on my own to build or buy a car.
The time and money these guys spend is unreal. Bet it's more than I spend on my vette.

True words. I have been part owner in a chump car and have rented a seat in two others (Daytona, Charlotte, AMP, VIR and NCM). The renting is by far the most fun and least expensive. I won't do anymore races that are over 10 hours, though. 24 get to be pretty tough.

I am a team owner for Ludicrous Speed. A V6 MR2. We were the fastest car at Road America this year. We have run the car for about 230 hours. I've got 10 hours W2W at Road America in the last month. It's a blast! We just need to improve our stint length by increasing fuel capacity. We ran 2:40 through the kink and 2:48 through the bend.

I am looking for safe, financially stable, fast drivers if anyone is interested. I just run midwest events. Brainerd, Autobahn, Gingerman, etc.

My goal is to run a C5 / C6 corvette in World Racing League with a 280 ish HP vortec truck motor. This fits in well with the WRL rules and would be very reliable. I need to find interested team members to help build and fund it.

Awesome times for Road America! Good job!
I maybe interested in a drive in your Corvette for 2018 on Road America if any.
What did you think of my driving style? Note... shift light is set at 6200 but with permission we are allowed 6800 for a lap or so to pass or to make up time😉
pm me more details please

I hope to drive for MT Motorsport on Road America later this year.
We can do a 2hrs stint in conservative mode (short shifting) with a caution in there... 1 min 50 at speed in our Miata😉
Right now we have two "fast" drivers and two "safe" drivers.

A buddy of mine and his dad are building a 944 for Chump racing. I'll definitely be interested when they're finished with it.

Hey Riaan, what tires and brake pads were you using? Friends of mine are thinking of building an SN95 Mustang for ChumpCar but to me it seems pretty heavy and unlikely to be reliable enough to run that distance without serious tire and brake conservation. The idea behind the torque monster Mustang it that passing may be easy but given you can do 1:37s in a Miata at Mosport, I think that might need to be re-thought.

Chumpcar allows Wilwood brakes as a point free add if I am not mistaken.

Brakes are considered a safety item and are basically free. You cannot have 10K worth of AP Racing or some big name brakes (there is a price cap just don't remember), but something like Wilwood is acceptable.

last year we ran RS3 and DTC60.
For this year MT Motorsport did a complete rebuild as per new rule changes... I was told we have "big brakes", more aero, better handling and a smaller engine now lol
come say hi July 1st weekend on Mosport and meet the team.😉

we beat on those heavy cars pretty hard near the end... can't beat light and nimble in an endurance race😆☺
