Those are fine. Their failure mode for me has typically been that the center peels off.

Agreed, Usually the left rear first with the stock chevy track alignment. I usually got 2.5 days out of them.

Ok great... I am on the track alignment.. I was really hoping to get 4-5 track days out of them... Not 2-3...

I got 5-6 out of toyo r888 tires on a Nissan gtr (4000lbs)..

Are the r888 as good as the sport cup2? Any suggestions on tires as good (car isn't a daily so dedicated track/competition tires are ok).. or better...that last 5 hard track days?

check out the r888r. It's the updated r888.

Based on reviews that I have read it is pretty equivalent maybe a little less performance to the tires you're running now in performance, except they cost a lot less and last a lot longer.

I haven't run R888s in several years but I think the Cup2s work better than the R888s. I think the Cup2s compare favorably with the Hoosiers other than on durability. They don't seem to last as long as the Hoosiers. Neither tire will last as long as the R888 but the R888 doesn't have the grip level.

I looked at the Hoosier r7.. also doesn't seem to come in the right sizes.... I love the cup2.. but was really hoping they'd last 4 track days... Not so sure anymore ..

I really believe that you will get far more than 4 track days out of the MPSC2s; I certainly do and I run in an Advanced group. I have gotten four track weekends per year out of mine, plus drive to/from the tracks with them. Further even though I've replaced them annually, the old ones still have tread left and I'm sure I could have continued to use them.

Plus I agree with Bill in that the Michelin is a superior tyre to the R888.

Yes I hope so.. they just looked real worn after my 1st track event.. I only did 3 sessions.. 3 more track events in the next couple months.. I'm usually not that bad with tires.

The R888r is available in a 345/30x19 as I have them on my car.. But you might need an 18?

I agree that the Michelins are likely a bit stickier tire, but the wear...! I'm just not in that income bracket.

Rears are 335/25/20 ... (See pic)

If the r888R had much better wear and 95% of the grip I may switch... Used r888 (non r) on a gtr and lotus and loved em...

I admit on track I've never had a better grippier tire than the cup2 michelin .. granted the r888 was the only r comps. Much better of course than advans or star specs ...which were great on boxsters and evos

IMHO the best bang for your buck are Pirelli slick scrubs. I am finding that a lot depends on which sizes you pick though. I was running 305/660-18F and 315/680-18R and was really surprised at how well they worked. They are a bit taller than stock so I tried the 305/645-18F and 325/660-18R and am not as happy and burning through rears quickly.

I've decided that while the 325 might be a slightly wider tire it just doesn't work well on my C7Z. The car tends to step up mid-corner. I tried all sorts of changes with tire pressure and shock settings but couldn't get the car to feel anywhere near as good as it did on the MPSC2 or the original sized Pirellis. I think it's because the 325/660-18 was designed to be a front tire for the Viper and something about the construction isn't right for a rear tire.

BTW, chewed up the outside shoulder on Hoosiers *very* quickly and the MPSC far outlasted them.

R888s have better grip than the SC2s in the dry. All are useless in the wet when worn down. I would get 5 weekends out of the R888s before cording. Getting 4 out of R7s.

Not a lot of 20" track tires out there. 18" and 15" are the high volumes. Not sure if they will fit, but may want to look into 18" rims for the track.

Gentleman at track this weekend with his grand sport and was using NT01s. Not sure of sizes but I believe they were 285/35/19 and 305/30/20s. Not ideal but...He said he'll buy them again and...no rubbing.

Also..he said he'd get 3 track days on the Cup2s.
