Default What amsoil to use?

I run amsoil in everything from my bikes to my supercharged c5z and now my new to my c6 track car.

I am curious what amsoil is best for road racing if different from what I run in the c5z.

The car has a lingenfelter 403ci motor in it with stock diff and trans. What would you guys recommend for

Trans
Diff
Engine

Thanks in advance

Exactly what I use, C6Z oem T-56 and diff.

I run Mobil1 15w50 in the (stock) motor however, seems to have helped sustain > 40psi oil at all RPM with temps sometimes over 260. I did see much lower pressures, especially at < 3k RPM, while using the OEM spec of 5w30 one time. Have just stuck with 15w50 since. I'm sure Amsoil have something similar.

If this is a purpose built track car that does not see any street miles than the Severe Gear 75W90 is great by itself. However, the clutch packs in the C6 diff are a little tighter and if you drive it on the street there is not enough limited slip additive to keep the tires from chattering around corners. If you drive it on the street I would recommend adding some of the Slip Lock additive as well.

Also, if it is street driven I would not recommend the racing oil on the street as it lacks the proper cleaners and detergents for long term street applications. The Premium Protection line of oil has similar levels of ZDDP as the Dominator racing oil but also has the cleaners in it for street use.

I appreciate the info the car will be 99% track use however it will see street use from time to time to blow out the cob webs when I want too haha. If it is 99% track and occasional street use should I still not use the racing oil? I know we have an amsoil rep on this site and can't remember his name but I was hoping he would chime in.

For that amount of use you should be fine with the Racing Oil. Its when people use the car to go to work often or cruise around etc. When you race the car you change the oil more often which is why the cleaners aren't really needed and you get the oil hot enough to burn off moisture. Regular street use usually puts more mileage on in between changes and thats when dirt and moisture can start to collect.

Subdriver (Brad) is the AMSOIL rep on the forum here and he is very knowledgeable.

Hmm.. Maybe it's time to switch to 0W40 Mobil 1 “FS” European Car Formula... the 40w is probably heavy enough to carry a decent hot pressure in the LS7 and it beats the pants off the oil I am running (Mobil 1 15w50) in this guy's tests.

Another interesting note he makes is:

Heavy thick oils such as 5W50 and 20W50, that are of course 50 weight oils at normal operating temperature, are slower to release and eliminate air bubbles/foam, than thinner oils such as 5W30 and 10W30 that are 30 weight oils at normal operating temperature. Motor oils do of course contain anti-foaming agents to help control (though not altogether eliminate) air bubbles/foam. But, the air bubbles that will still be present in the oil anyway, have to travel through the oil to be released. And thicker heavier oils slow down that process, leaving compromised lubrication. Adding aftermarket oil treatments that thicken the oil more, makes aeration issues even worse, by causing further slowing of air bubble release. Data on this is not widely published, so I have future testing planned that will provide much needed test data on this subject. But in the meantime, keep in mind that thinner oils such as 5W30 and 10W30, allow air bubbles to travel through the oil and be released quicker, making them a better viscosity choice to fight motor oil aeration issues, and provide the best possible lubrication protection for your engine.

I have been using the 0w40. I was using it for cold start protection since it will flow much better than a 20w50 in cold temps. Then someone showed me that website and I felt much better about my choice.

Note that there are several tests for this Mobil 1 oil, and only the "FS" does really well:

3. 0W40 Mobil 1 “FS” European Car Formula, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, API SN, synthetic = 127,221 psi

108. 0W40 Mobil 1, European Formula, API SN, made in the U.S., synthetic = 82,644 psi
This is an earlier version that has been replaced by 0W40 Mobil 1 “FS” European Car Formula. See above for the newer version’s ranking position.

I believe the FS just stands for full synthetic. They don't sell the one at number 108 anymore. This oil is carried at walmart for about $25 for a 5 qt bottle.

I wonder when the switch to the newer "FS" happened..

I'm a little weary of outfits like WM dumping old stock... I suppose if it has the full specs listed on the bottle as shown on the Mobil1 website, it should be the right stuff.

Specifications and approvals

Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 synthetic motor oil meets or exceeds the requirements of:
API SN, SM, SL, SJ
ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4

Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 has the following builder approvals:
MB-Approval 229.3
MB-Approval 229.5
VW 502 00/505 00
PORSCHE A40

According to ExxonMobil, Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 is of the following quality:
API CF
VW 503 01

I think in either late 2015 or early 2016. I imagine all the old stock is gone.

Can confirm; Walmart had it with the small "FS" moniker on the bottle, $22 per 5 quarts. Nice price to boot.

I run Torque drive in the trans and sever gear w/ one slip lock if needed in the rear. Been running it for over 10 years in several vettes and holds up very well with my Blackstone reports. I dont use the motor oil as i change it out too often when tracking I use 15/50 Mobile 1 or 0/40 Mobile 1 but I have no cats. the high zinc does hurt cats.
