Year, model, trim: 2002 Z06
Front BBK: Front Endurance (CP5060/355mm), introduced 2013, part#13.01.10011
Front Wheel: CCW C14, 18x10", 7.75" BS

Feedback: Mine is an HPDE car that is street-driven (mostly just to the track and back) and still on street tires, near-stock power, and no aero - a real basic C5 HPDE car. With the OEM C5 front calipers I would get spread and soft pedal after several hot laps, which is why I finally decided to upgrade.

After talking with Jeff he convinced me to go with the Endurance setup instead of Sprint at the time (about 3 years ago now). It was a great investment. Even on street tires and with my humble driving aspirations this kit was a HUGE improvement. Pedal is rock solid and to this day I still find myself braking early because I am not utilizing all of the brake capability that this kit has to offer.

For me this upgrade was more for peace of mind than for necessity, but my home track is hard on brakes and just about any off-track "excursion" is an expensive one so it was an easy choice. One of the absolute best investments that I've made to date and Jeff and the guys at Essex have been fantastic to deal with. They've answered all of my questions no matter how mundane.

I'm curious for any of you who have had to replace rotors, seals, cups etc. due to wear; have you run into stocking challenges or is it aplenty as I would expect from a great company? It is peace of mind knowing you can have a new ring sent to you in a couple days if you find one cracked or have a leaking cup seal. Just curious if your experience has been all positive. To follow-up, do you go through Jeff for replacement parts or do you do what most do and let the google lead the way?

I always go through Essex and usually have replacement parts in my hands in a few days.

Thank you! This is such an amazing piece of equipment. The idea of race brakes as opposed to just a larger 'kit' sure is appealing. I've even considered cramming 19" front wheels just to get the largest possible calipers were a consideration but from a couple posts here I am gathering that even the 355's should be ideal for a race-only vehicle. What I have to remember is that 355mm AP is not the same as a typical 355mm 'BBK'. But that 172 sounds so sexy!!

I have a 2009 z06 looking at cp9668 or cp9660 372mm front kit and trying to understand following:

1. Car will be driven to track on OEM spyder wheels. It seems like the consensus is cp9660 will fit without spacer, but anyone have experience what spacer works with cp9668 and these spyder wheels? 10mm?
2. Waiting on my ccw ts12 18x11 fronts to arrive. Anybody run these with an ap kit? Ccw told me cp9668 should fit, but frankly I’d like someone else to personally verify as ccw also said my wheels should’ve been shipped over a month ago.

Year, model, trim: 2002 C5 Z06
Front BBK: Front CP8350/325mm= 13.01.10007 with Ferodo DS2500 pads
Front Wheel: C5 Z06 OEM 18X10.5, no spacer (the C5 Z06 OEM 17X9.5 wheel with no spacer also clears this etup)
Rear BBK: OEM with GM rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads
Rear Wheel: C5 Z06 OEM 18x10.5, no spacer

Feedback:
I only did a couple of autocrosses and come to the realization this is a must upgrade for C5. In just a few events, I went through a set of aftermarket rotors and a very popular set of autocross pads. I was lucky enough to buy a used sprint kit with Ferodo DS2500 pads for the front. I left the rears as OEM calipers and installed matching Ferodo DS2500 pads.
I've already used the setup on two events and there is barely any noticeable wear on the pads. My confidence level at the track went through the roof, no more fading brakes, or constantly checking rotors and pads, the car just stop when I press on the brake pedal. Also as an added benefit the Ferodo DS2500 pads for the Spring kit cost about half what they do the for the stock C5 front calipers! The installation instructions are well written and the Essex customer service is top notch. No regrets whatsoever, and I may even upgrade to Competition kit in the near future, but for the now I'm just going to enjoy what I have.

Hi Tia,
The CP9668 sticks out roughly 14mm further towards the wheels spokes compared to the CP9660. My hunch is that a 15mm spacer would do the trick on the OEM Spyders, but can't guarantee that. Keep in mind that you need 2mm of clearance from the wheel spokes and barrel. I'm sure someone else here on the forum as tried the 9668 with the OEM Spyders.

I can't help on that particular CCW wheel either. With the wheels in hand you'll be able to check our fitment templates.

Finally, I wrote an article for our blog last week that compares the 9668 vs. the 9660...click on the link below:

Sibling Rivalry: Which AP Racing Radi-CAL is Right for Me, the CP9660 or CP9668?

Hopefully that is helpful to you, and thanks for considering Essex and AP Racing!

Jeff, Are pads for the 9660 and 9668 available in the same range of compounds? If the car is to be driven on the street as well as the track will one of these calipers offer more flexibility in available pad compounds?

That's a great question, and I'm going to have to add this info to the article. Thanks Bad_AX!

Both calipers are also designed to run on discs of similar thickness (32-36mm), so the pistons in both calipers are designed for maximum extension into that range. The pad backing plate itself for both calipers is the same thickness, regardless of how much actual pad compound is stuck on the front of it. While you can't cram a 25mm thick pad into a caliper designed to accept an 18mm thick pad, the wider CP9668 will accept the 18mm thick pads in addition to the 25mm thickness. Installing the 18mm thick pads into the 9668 would simply be as if your 25mm pads were worn down 7mm at the time of install, so your pistons would just be extended a little bit at install. So in that regard, the CP9668 caliper would offer a bit more flexibility, as it can accept any of the 25mm pad sets using that backing plate shape, as well as all of the ones in 18mm thickness.

Overall, you will tend to find the milder types of sport pads in the thinner 18mm thickness.

I need to express my gratitude publicly to Essex for their stellar service and recommendations when it came to outfitting my C5 Z06 recently. I have a full write-up pending but will wait until the video is pulled off the Aim/Solo for illustration purposes. A quick teaser though, is that I was in a bit of a rut recently, not able to better my times in the chunks that I needed. I had hit the proverbial wall. I was running 6 piston ST's and unsure I could get any improvements up front with the AP's. I had OEM out back and knew that would make a difference, but was unsure about spending the money to replace what I already invested up front. All I can say is that I have absolute proof that an upgrade from a BBK to what should really be considered a true racing system made every bit of difference that I was looking for...and a hell of a lot more. I was already winning my class from week to week but the full AP setup now has me competing with the group in front that I never dreamed capable.

Jeff, you never came at me like a salesman. You just gave me facts and let me come to my own conclusion in my own time. I rolled the dice and I cannot thank you enough. How about 3.4 seconds off my previous race pace in GT1, USTCC? 4.1 seconds off my NASA ST1 PB. No other mods. Just the raw ability to out-brake my competition and provide me the confidence to push harder and further into T4,T7 &11 at Sonoma for a 1:43. T'Hill is in 2 weeks and we can't wait to see what they'll do there. I'm anxious to share the results. Thank you, sir. Sincerely, you are a class act and the product in a league of it's own. TBC

Calling all C6 Z06 owners with OEM Spyder wheels...we need your help! I know many of you are running our CP9668/372mm kit. I have a customer wondering if a wheel spacer would be required with OEM Spyder wheels. I'm pretty sure a spacer will be necessary, but we're just trying to figure out how thick. If anyone can check the wheel template for me and snap a few pics, I'd be grateful. If you help us, we will send you a nice thank you present.

Wheel fitment template can be found here:
https://www.essexparts.com/storage/w...template_2.pdf

If you could please verify the CP9660/372mm Kit while you're at it, I'd be even more grateful!
https://www.essexparts.com/storage/w...template_2.pdf

Thanks so much gents!

Can anyone recommend an affordable 19" wheel that will front CP9668 372mm for C6 z06 without spacers?
Just looking for something I can drive on the street as I already have a set of CCW TS12 for track that will work.

Tire Rack is trying to confirm for me their Flow One 19x10 +38mm will work and I can get the full set for ~$1200. But haven't heard back in 3 days.
Also Forgestar told me F14 Deep concave 19x10 +37mm won't fit as someone is selling a used set that I was going to buy

The stock wheel is 18x9.5. Does it fit over the AP brakes? If so then you know the offset that will work with a 19 inch wheel. If they don't fit you can use shims behind those wheels to do some experimentation to see how many shims it would take to get the wheel to fit and then just calculate the offset you need to match the thickness of the shims plus the actual offset of the C6Z wheel.

No, the factory wheels don’t fit. They are very close to the spokes, but for sure hit the barrel.
I thought about what you mention, but doesn’t every wheel vary on spoke design where it wouldn’t be as simple as finding what offset would fit on the wheel I have and applying it to others?

Year, model, trim: 2003, Coupe, (~$50K of added trim
Front BBK: Front Endurance (CP5060/355mm), introduced 2013, part#13.01.10011
Front Wheel: TSW Nurburgring 18 x 10.5, no spacer
Rear BBK: N/A
Rear Wheel: N/A
Feedback: Excellent product. No more worrying about "brake fade" or caliper spread from the stock setup. This meant confidence, later breaking, and faster lap times. It made sense to me that if I bought top shelf products to go fast, I better buy top shelf products to stop with.

Hello Gents,

I wanted to update this thread with our latest info regarding OEM wheel fitment.
  • Any of our CP9668 Kits (355mm or 372mm) will NOT clear OEM wheels on a C6 without the use of a spacer. The caliper is too wide.
  • Our CP9660/355mm Kit will clear all years of OEM C6Z06 wheels (in all styles, 2006-2012), and OEM C5Z06 rear wheels when run on the front.
Our CP9660/372mm Kit is one of our most popular, and fitment info for that kit is below:

Wheels that require a spacer:
  • 2009+ OEM Z06 Spyder wheels (5 split spokes, pictured below)- The barrel on these wheels tapers inward towards the spokes, causing interference with the caliper. Our recommendation to clear our CP9660/372mm kit is a 10mm wheel spacer. Even then, you should still check our wheel fitment template on your particular wheels as there is some variance in wheel size!

Confirmed wheels that fit without a spacer:
  • 2006-2008 OEM Speedline 10 spoke C6 Z06 front wheels (pictured below)*
  • OEM C6 Grand Sport Front wheels*
  • CCW C10s 18x13, BS:9.25
  • CCW TS12 18x11 shallow concave, 7.5" backspacing
  • CCW C14
  • OEM C5 Z06 Rear 18x10.5 wheels run on the front- SOMETIMES! Please see notes below.
*Wheel fitment template inside a C6 Z06 OEM front Speedline wheel is shown below. C6 Grand Sport wheel fitment is nearly identical. The kit fits both without a spacer, but you need to watch contact with wheel weights!

More details on the OEM 2006-2008 wheel fitment:Our standard recommendation is to allow for at least 2mm of clearance in all areas, so this one is about as tight as you can get...but it does work.

2.5 mm between the wheel spokes and the face of the caliper. This can be seen in drawing 1 below. If more clearance is desired a wheel spacer would do the job, and it could be very thin.

2 mm between the bolt-in caliper bridge and the barrel section of the wheel. In drawing 1 you can also see that a slight modification to top portion of the caliper bridge that sticks up could be add a little more clearance. That section is really just to make it easy to grab with one’s fingers. The benefits of a wheel spacer with respect to adding clearance here would be very little.

2 mm between the small piston end of the caliper body and the barrel section of the rim. See drawing 2. This is the area of most concern. We do not recommend clearancing (grinding down) that corner of the caliper.

We cannot guarantee these figures/clearances on your car, since there are variations ineverycaliper body and every wheel. What we have here looks very, very close. Actual clearances on your car will likely be a little different. Our advice is to do what you feel comfortable with based on what you’re seeing with the template on your specific setup. The dimensions of our fitment template in the link above are accurate down to the mm.

Drawing 1

Drawing 2

How to use the wheel fitment template:

Any idea for a C6 Z06 if CP9660/372mm and CP9449/340mm would fit these wheels: C6 Z06 Forgestar F14 18x11 front and 18x12 rear?

Unfortunately not. You'd have to check our templates...or rather have Forgestar do so for you...links below. If they aren't willing to help you out and do that, you should be shopping for a different brand of wheels!
