Default Mix and matching Pirelli DH Slicks w/ Hoosier R7s = dumb or not?

Due to availability of ideal sizing in scrub slicks, I've contemplated the thought of running R7s on the rear and DH slicks on the front.

Is this a no-no for some reason I'm not properly considering? I'd love to continue running the DHs on the front as they are inexpensive, plentiful, and perform well.

The largest DH tire I can find that doesn't cause extensive rubbing and front-to-rear-diameter ratio problems looks absurdly stretched on an 18x13 rim:

Should be interesting depending on how grip comes in and goes away depending on heat with totally different compounds and construction.

Are you running weird offsets or slammed in the rear 705-710 should fit no problem. Think T1 ride height.

OEM ride hide spec on drop spindles. Even w/o the wheel liner, rubs on literally every surface.

See also this ABS issue I'm having: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-on-track.html

This is the combo of 645 front with 705 rear. Much feedback that the ratio is too tall, hence the switch to 660 rears, or R7's.

I'm giving the 660's a shot first, although they are just a bit too narrow for 13" rims, for my liking.

Yes, they are narrow on the 13 inch rims but do work fine. Don't put the Pirelli tires in the front with the Hoosier DOT R compounds in the rear. The handling characteristics are different due to construction and tire compounds and I believe the Pirelli Slick is probably a better performing tire. It would be fine to have it on the rear and a less performing tire on the front but not with the better performing tire in the front. You might have way too much over steer and it could be way to late when you find out about it.

Pick one or the other. Each has its own unique characteristics which require setup changes to optimize but regardless you are going to have one tire that's ready to go on the out lap and another that needs 3 laps to come up to temperature and pressure. You are going to have ever changing handling as each exhibits its individual characteristics. You'll spend 3/4 of the session trying to figure out how to handle the change.

Of course might be a good exercise in car control....lol.

Thanks gents. I'll just give these narrow DH's a crack and see what's what.

Will likely switch to R7s all around after they're done.

For WHAT usage????????????
If only for track days, then "go for it".
Who cares as long as you get "seat time".

If for wheel to wheel racing (where you want to win) then the equation changes, doesn't it

The 325/660-18 Pirelli slick is designed as a front tire for the Viper in PWC. I did not find it worked well on the rear of the C7Z although it fit fine on both 12" and 13" wide rims. It's not just size and manufacturer that matters - it's also construction.

I'd be more inclined to either to a 305/660-18F and 315/680-18R combo or give the Hoosiers a shot with the Pirelli fronts.

That's what I sourced. I'll try the following in this order: R7s 295/30/18 and 315/30/19, R7s 315/30/18 and 325/30/19, Pirelli DH scrubs 305/660/18, 315/680/18. Here's hoping there's enough events left in the season to try them all.
