Default R888R vs Rival S

I'm due for a new set of tires and I'm torn between the R888R and the Rival S. Most of the events I race (time attack) in a street tire class so these are probably my best options.

The R888R do come in 345 width vs the 335 in the rivals, so that's plus. Car currently has R888 (the older version) on it because that's what it came with when I purchased it. Not sure how I feel about them. I had R888r's on my evo and hated them...but to be fair it was really cold track temp that day.

Opinions? I wish they made RE71r's in vette sizing!

All my buddies rave about the Rival S, and they punish them to death on track. I have the R888's now and will be switching to the Rival S when my tires wear out.

i run the rivals for the simple fact they are 200TW vs the 888s 100TW.
im sure the 888 are faster, but these Rivals wear out plenty fast for MY wallet

I'm actually surprised with the longevity of the r888's on it now, they seem to wear very well. I just want what's fastest

I just checked Tirerack and the cost difference is only $136 for a set of four in 315 and 335 18" sizes. The r888r is the less expensive

cant comment on the rivals but I do have 5 track days, or 27 track sessions on my R888R's in my track only acura integra and they are still going strong. prob 25% tread left and I keep getting faster on them. I went 7- 20 min sessions last month at njmp lightning in 90 deg heat with my fastest lap times almost always are the last few laps. I did have tire rack heat cycle them fyi. I plan on buying another set.

What are you using for a target hot pressure on those?

not exactly apples to apples compared to a wider tire on a heavier vette, but I'm running a 205/50/15 on a 2400lb fwd car. Ive been running 38-39psi front and 36psi rear hot seem to be the sweet spot. -2.5 deg camber front -1.75 rear.

ive always wondered on actual wear, as the 888s have always been cheaper.
i typically get 4 weekends out of the Rival S's, 8 days. 48 sessions. on a high speed, abrasive track (TWS)

my rivals love 34psi.

32 they scream and slide
and 37+ they slide.

i run 35 to get a bit better shoulder life while RR, and run 34 for AX.

I have found R888s to last quite some time personally. I now am on R888rs but don't have any track time on them. They stick like silly on round abouts and what not though

I had not heard about Simpletire.com til recently....were you happy with their service? Free shipping does save quite a bit when it comes to shipping tires.

I had a really good experience with them, I was able to buy 295&315’s in 18’s for about $1020 shipped. They did have a bunch of negative reviews but I tried them anyway due to the price. The tires showed up 2 or 3 days later so all was good. I plan to use them in the future. Keep an eye out for coupon codes.
