So, all we need to have a decent GP is to have a track that is out of character to most Tilke built circuits, little (10 deg) temperature difference, and teams actually RACING?!!

This was great to see, specially since in the beginning Toto was pounding his chest, surely counting on a one-two.
I was particularly happy to see the smile wiped off his mug - ain't laughing now, are you, punk?

Kimi's start was spectacular, but he didn't follow it through and lost his rhythm, otherwise he would have stayed 2nd in the beginning stages.

What a blunder with the pit stop strategy for Merc, at least they admitted to screwing up. Lewis is still a whino though, that's no way to blast the team on open air.

Wonder if Ricci has had it with Renault and will make an emotional, career defining decision to go to a lesser team since only SF or AMGF1 are teams worth considering.
Hopefully Leclerc to Haas, Ricci to SF and Alo (not fn Sainz ffs) to RB.

The FIA announced Monday a new DRS area at Silverstone (which is a former WWII RAF airfield), the third.

This new area has been placed along the straight line of the pits and extends to the Abbey and Farm bends, either the first two bends of the English circuit so activation will start after turn 18, at the exit of the last turn. The DRS only closes when the pilot starts braking or removes his foot from the throttle. In theory, the guys could take turns 1 and 2 with the DRS open ! it would be a first in race ! there will be sport !

In a race, yes, but remember the F-duct, and open DRS in quali from year 1 of the tech. They were running DRS open in a lot of places, including (the most spectacular to me) 130R at Suzuka. Vettel's pole lap there was very impressive, WOT in 7th gear, DRS open, and it looks completely drama free. Supreme confidence in the car...

Vote for Driver-of-the-Year (so far):
http://gptoday.com/full_story/view/6...river_in_2018/
I went with Alonso, with a close 2nd by Ricciardo.
FA has out performed his teammate in every race and consistently finished further up the field than the car deserves.

McLaren's new "coup de thé tre" :

after Tim Goss, "Bouboule" alias E Boullier is fired from McLaren. The slingshot of some employees calling for Whitmarsh's return seems to have been heard. He is replaced by the Franco-Brazilian Gil de Ferran but backstage, we also talk about the return of Whitmarsh. Brown pointed out that the departure of "Bouboule" is the beginning of a vast movement of restructuring of McLaren, of what to give ideas to Williams whose car 2018 has performances in Q lower than 2017 ?

Something had to give at McLaren...looks like it's Boullier.
I wouldn't be surprised if Zak Brown goes too.

To pass a very good sunny weekend watching Silerstone GP, some news you have to know fans friends of F1.

Silverstone, ex RAF airfield. 1st GP in 1950 (non GP F1 wich began in 1951).
First introduction of the dry hard blue tyre, in fact it's last year's white tire. Merco tyre advantage : reduced thickness as at Montmelo and Castellet, last use of this thickness tyre for 2018 GP.

The FIA will allow to use the DRS until before the turn 3 if the pilot does not raise the foot of the throttle before ! so turn 1 and 2 maybe DRS open ! wow

As both its cars have given up, Mercedes is not in danger of being penalised if it replaces the transmission on both W09. As for the powertrain, the reigning World Champion can replace the six components of his engine without penalty, while Bottas has already fitted his last battery and control electronics : if these were to be replaced, the Finn would be penalised.

Start to 1st turn: 296,3 meters
WOT on a lap : 66 %
Break on a lap : 13 %
Pit stop time, best total time 2017 from entrance to exit : 27,583 sec.
Greatest G force : 1st turn : 4 G for 1,0 sec.
Hamilton, the Master here since, need to equal Senna's record of Monaco, 6.
A marvel of ability to watch absolutely : Copse, Maggotts, Becketts, Chapel, turns 9 to 14.

Liberty wants 23 races:
http://gptoday.com/full_story/view/6...r_to_23_races/
Bring it on...I can't get enough F1 as it is.

Report Card on Haas' season so far:

Zak Brown on the road ahead for McLaren:

If McLaren wants to get back to the top they need to start poaching MB and Ferrari's top engineers.

McLaren's Lando Norris training for his F1 debut:

I'm pretty sure that Gil de Ferran was chosen because McClaren is planning an Indycar run next year, at least at Indianapolis. I'm not sure if Alonso will do a full season in Indycar, or if he'll run just Indianapolis 500 and run the rest of the season in F1.

FP1

2 rows of mirrons on the W09
New floor under the SF71 H
Ferrari responds to the Merco Evo by introducing a new flat floor at Silverstone with extra slots just in front of the rear wheels and a new engine hood that is a carbon copy of the Silver Arrows. Force India whose base is in Silverstone, across the street will also have Evo .

Hamilton in the rhythm and Grosjean in the wall, first victim of the new DRS zone, at the end of turn 1. Gearbox or hydraulic problem for Max.
