Not seeing option A happen. I'd love to see option B, but I don't think Indycar shares my vision
Maybe McClaren is jockeying to replace Dallara altogether?

I'd like to know what's being said in the States about Leclerc. Here, the serious observers are unanimous, Leclerc in red, it is done , announce at the end of summer.

It would surprise me a little bit if he is driving alongside SV next year.
Yes, he has done well this season...but he is JUST a rookie.
FWIW, I think another season at Sauber (or maybe Haas) would be a more prudent measure by the Scuderia at this point.
Ferrari is very much in the fight to topple MB this year....why rock the boat right now?

FP3
No rain expected this we.

New ICE and Turbo for Hulk, the broken turbo broke in Austria leaving pass débris in the ICE. New Spec Renault in Spa or Monza so grid penalties, 10 expected at this moment.

ICE changed for Gasly STR, an old ICE placed in the châssis for the FP3.
New kerb at Club, turn 18.

Thd new flat floor of Ferrari is effective

NIKI revealed talks with Max for 2019 but Marko's reaction was very fast. So I think Ferrari doesn't want a team like Merco take Leclerc, buying the Ferrari's contract of Leclerc, that ispossible when you want specifically a such pilot.

Hartley's problem makes STR engineers very worried about Gasly's car. He's not allowed to go track. Leclerc P7 !

Q1

Come back to the single mirror gor Merco.
V4 in S, 2 Merco and Raikko in M.

Q2
Merco in S

Q3
Enormous pole of Hamilton, a battle of a high , hot intensity in Q3, the both trials were great, Raikko he misses himself a little at the decisive moment, as usua, brake locking at Club, turn 16, same place for the Bottas' fajlt. Record of the track, and equal Senna in pole for a circuit, 6

High temperature tomorrow on the track, diffivult race for the tyres.

Another boring Qualifying...the usual suspects in the usual order.
Maybe I'll skip qualifying too and just watch the races...

It's very hot in Silverstone, more than normal, track +55°C, air 28 C. High risk of blistering and how many laps on the yellows? all the UK will be behind one man : #LH44. Yesterday 100,000 spectators despite soccer at the same time from UK vs Sweden.

Rehaved but not leveled track, there are bumps and V4 had a case pain during Q2. The Merco is adjusted very hard with suspensions close to ebony (wooden)

Pirelli strategy possible
Fastest : 1 stop (Soft 16-19 turns + Medium)
Alternative : 1 stop (Soft 13-16 turns + Hard)
In case of very strong degradation : 2 stops: Soft 12 laps + Soft 12 laps + Medium

Here too, French TV medias say it's done for Leclerc, a pré-contract signed in Spielberg, just Ferrari choses the good 'tempo' to announce it.

Excellent start of V4 but Raikko sends Hamilton off track
transmission failed for Leclerc , or a wheel problem after the pit.

Lap 33 enormous shock Ericsson, SC. Strategy of Merco, non pit for Bottas to nlock V4 and pit for Hamilton, wow , exciting.
start and 2nd SC, Sainz, Grosjean in les graviers...Mon Dieu.
V4 overtakes Bottas and kimi do the same.
Winner V4, +8 points vs Hamilton
End of serie for Hamilton and Mercedes, V4 equal Prost, 51 victories. Definitively, Ferrari has the best PU and châssis, yesterday, the Hamilton's pole was a personnal exploit, he has the best place that he could get

This was the first race of the season I watched in its entirety without fast forwarding the DVR. Somebody at Mercedes needs to do a little espionage and figure out how to get their hands on Ferrari's launch control secrets.

So nice to watch a UK race with sunny sky and good weather......global warming is finally having positive effects, lol.

Did we ever get a clear answer as to what happened with Max's off? Brundle made the assumption there was contact but there was never any investigation mentioned.

Max a lot of problems. Since the first lap, the brakes. Then the clutch, then a head to tail due to rear brakes (rear brake are electronic, function with the MGU K ) blocking. DNF because gearbox was blocking in 4th speed.

Gasly, contact with Perez. After the race and investigation, he passed from 10th to 13rd classification, because 5 seconds of penalty, so Perez 10th

It is strange MB doesn't have as good a launch control as Ferrari and RB.

It's all in the drivers' hands. Literally.

There are no electronic aids. It's all mechanical for the clutch. It's operated by two paddles on the back of the steering wheel on the bottom half of the wheel. Both paddles operate the same clutch. As they approach their grid position, the driver will use one of the paddles to inch forward, holding that paddle with his hand at the "bite point." That's where the clutch is slipping, but driving the wheels to move the car. It's analgous to holding your manual transmission Corvette on a hill with the clutch partially engaged but slipping, or just inching forward by slipping the clutch. When stopping, the driver will fully squeeze the other paddle with the other hand to fully disengage the clutch, and hold that until the lights go out. That's like pushing the clutch pedal in your Corvette to the floor, like when you're sitting at a stoplight. When the lights go out, the driver releases the paddle he's fully squeezed to fully disengage, snap releasing that. That puts the thing on the other paddle, which he then releases gently as he applies throttle and power. It's the same dance you play with your clutch pedal in a very powerful Corvette. Release too quickly with too much throttle, the wheels spin. Release too slowly with too much throttle and the clutch slips and burns with excessive wear (and on the F1 car, there's not much material to wear, burn, and glaze). Release too quickly before the revs have built up and it bogs down and lugs.

Here's a video from a couple of years back explaining it.

The rules have only changed slightly since that video was made, and Bottas mentions it in the video. When the video was made, the driver could discuss bite point with the team on the radio on the formation lap, zeroing in on how many revs and how much slip was the target for the "bite point" hand paddle. The team could watch telemerty and tell the driver how much slip there should be when he holds that paddle. Since just after that video was made, they can't discuss anything about the clutch position or setting over the radio. If there's any discussion, it's before the driver leaves the garage, or on the grid as the driver is getting in the car. There's no discussion about the clutch once the engines are started on the grid.

Thanx for the great explanation of "launching."
