I forget, but does COTA allow cabs/uber to drop people off at the front gate?

I know they have plenty of bus shuttles running from other parking lots (which they'll probably expand under these circumstances), but IDK about personal car hires.

FP1 V4 under investigation: it did not slow down sufficiently under red flag caused by the off-piste of Leclerc bringing gravel back to the track. Earlier in the season, Ricci Dentifrice and Ocon had had 3 penalty places on the grid. Verdict in the coming hours.

Official: V4 grid penalty, 3 positions on Sunday. Ironically, he owes this to the gravel brought back by his future mate team on the track, Leclerc. Barring accidents or incidents, Hamilton sees its chances of being crowned in the USA for the 2nd time with its 5th title, drastically increased . The Ferrari are completely underwater, I don't understand what's happening to them. Gasly P2 in FP2.

Anecdote: during the Pirelli tyre tests for Ferrari, Vettel and Leclerc drivers, Leclerc with equal tyre and car, was ahead of Vettel !

https://racer.com/2018/10/19/vettel-...flag-incident/

This was just careless. It was wet, Sunday is supposed to be dry, AFAIK he wasn't trying a qualifying run, there was absolutely ZERO reason not to respect the red flags. It's not like he doesn't know what's happened before this season to other teams for the same scenario.

This isn't superior performance by Mercedes, or driving by Hamilton. This is something I'd expect out of a rookie driver. Grrr....

Well, COTA weekend is here!

Have a good one,
Mike

I have some sympathy for those who violate the rules regarding flags.
I believe their focus is so intense on other things that the vast majority of violators simply don't see them in time.

Just another mistake by Vettel, in a LOOOOOOOONG line of them this year.
Must be very frustrated with the way his season has unfolded. Without a doubt he is still one of the most talented drivers on the planet.

FP3

Dry track, surprise, rain not expected. Set up set up for the race...
Merco is sharing the job between the 2 pilots, LH#44 in SS mode long runs, Féfé in mode pole, U tyres.

23 mn before thevrnding session LH, in U preparing the Q, Féfé is P1 and P2, clearly Féfé wants the pole with Raikko to stop the Merco while V4 will overtake. Féfé dosn't try the long runs.

Q1
P1 Ham, FAILURE for Crashtappen, suspension I think. No in race for P2

Merco, Féfé in SS, so they will probably mount the S yellow after in the race*

As scheduled, pool by Hamilton, V4 P2 but with 3 places penalty tomorrow will start P5, good performance of Ocon, Hulk, Leclerc and Romain. Ocon ahead Perez, as usual now... what a shame, Ocon fired... money and dady..., So US people, tomorrow, you will assist* in your country to the 5th coronation of LH44, always more closer to the stars.*

I didn't feel like the #44 forced it to get the pole. As in Q2 where the Merco assured the passage to Q3 while preserving the tyres, but at the start, Kimi will be in U tyre, and the other around him in SS. Excellent performance of Ocon, as usual now ahead Perez, what a shame, no bucket for next year, Leclerc and Grojean, Hulk did a good job. US people will assist to the 5th coronation of LH44...

ANOTHER Alonso clusterfnck:
https://jalopnik.com/fernando-alonso...ign-1829888076
He really needs to stay out of racing politics.

It's dumb to depend on a loser like McLaren...they're fncked up from top to bottom.
They're best days are behind them.

The data of the problem is simple : Hamilton at the first turn ahead, Bottas doesn't need to go after Kimi but just block Vettel and Ricci Dentifrice won't give a gift: Hamilton has 2 allies: Bottas and Ricci and maybe Ocon if Vettel pit before Ocon.

Strategy by Pirelli : quickest is a one-stopper. Initial stint on supersoft for 18-24 laps then soft to the finish. Slightly slower is this: start on ultrasoft for 14-20 laps then soft to the flag. Clearly slower: start on ultrasoft for 20-25 laps then soft to the flag.

Tyres available for the race

the Ferrari's return to shape is due to the evolutions that have been abandoned. Ferrari returned to the former bargeboards and floor of Russia after having made an evaluation on Friday.

BREAKING NEWS
Penalty for RBR/Verstappen : the team decided to mount a new gearbox, so 5 places back on the grid, P18, juste ahead the brothers STR...A family grid position to drink some cans waiting the start...

Pirelli decided to change the psi for the rear tyres, at last time, I think the teams are not happy because of the par fermé, no other adjustements ont set up are possible

STR : the contract of the Thai Albon is being prepared by RBR to take over the 2nd bucket of the STR. Albon at STR, just announced in the coming weeks.

Not surprising...the half-shaft looked broken.

In response to the harshness of the kerbs?

STR : the contract of the Thai Albon is being prepared by RBR to take over the 2nd bucket of the STR. Albon at STR, just announced in the coming weeks.
Not surprising Hartley is being dropped.
He simply isn't fast enough.

In case anyone isn't aware, there will be 2 broadcasts of the race today: 1:30 PM EST on ABC and 7:30 PM on ESPN2.
My question is will the ABC broadcast be commercial-free too?*

Lauda says MB is lucky Ferrari is so bad:
http://gptoday.com/full_story/view/6...ri_are_so_bad/
It's good to see him full of **** & vinegar again.

Ocon promised a seat at MB?
http://gptoday.com/full_story/view/6...d_car_in_2020/
The question becomes will Bottas or LH (retires?) be gone?

The Boys at RB having fun again:

As usual RB does something very cool with their promotions.

Ricciardo trying out his Texas accent (go to 2:40):

I'm going to miss DR at RB.
