This was the part of the article that makes me think they did change it out for Bahrain:

Sebastian Vettel encountered an issue in the third and final practice session of the Bahrain GP weekend. The control electronics unit developed malfunctions which prompted Ferrari to change that for a fresh one due to the tight schedule between the practice session and the qualifying. Ferrari completed a thorough investigation to find out whether the issue was down to the hardware or to a software glitch and the data suggested that the unit is fully useable for the remainder of the season. It is a huge relief for the German driver, because losing one fresh unit early on in the season would have resulted in penalties.
That reads to me that they changed it out for the weekend, but after checking it out they can put it back into inventory.

Now, if I'm misunderstanding that, then yeah, what happened makes sense. However, if my understanding is correct, then what?

Have a good one,
Mike

You have a point.
I'm not sure what to make of it, other than perhaps the article is in error or simply poorly written.

Grosjean needs to go. The guy is over rated. Maybe he should go drive for Renault.

Hello Mike, if they want, they can change the box control as they want if they are in the quota of 2 electronic box by season, and not necessarly consecutively as the gearbox, 6 races consecutive for 1 gearbox . So the process is respected, it's legal.

Renault doesn't need Grosjean, it's citizen of Switzerdland also, ...so...''sober'' , oh excuse me, Sauber.

F1 news
Ferrari wheel : the problem would be related to the gun used to unscrew and screw the wheel. The guns have an automatic adjustment, without the mechanic having to choose a mode to screw or unscrew : the first pulse allows to unscrew the nut of the tire to replace, and the second to screw the nut on the new wheel, if the gun is in A mode.

When the mechanic pressed the gun again, the gun was set to screw the wheel, which was not removed, but since the sequence of unscrewing and screwing had taken place and the sensors indicated that the nut was screwed in, the gun and wheel systems sent a signal to indicate that the stop was complete. So the light automatically went green for the electronic lollipop and Räikkönen went back as any Pavlovian driver would. FIA will expand her investigation on pit stops: 5th unsafe released in 3 races.

F1 TV
Liberty Media has just announced that the TV Pro service will open for the Spanish GP in May.

No, it's not a point. Louise changed his gear box, and the rule governing that is different than the rule governing using your supply of engine components, which you only get a penalty for when you exceed your allotment. The gearbox rule is different:

Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for six consecutive events.

Louise had to swap to a 2nd within the 6 race window, so he got a penalty.

Simple.

BK/Thunder,

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize there was a rule about running consecutive races with the gearbox.

Have a good one,
Mike

It's all good... didn't have to edit anything, was just passing along the rule. (I also didn't see froggy's post so I didn't realize I was repeating it)

FP3 track not totally dry, wind

Spectacular BBQ at RBR, Ricci invits, Haas/Grosjean brake RR overcooked, 6 laps
Ferrari at ease

Bottas used particularly S, Hamilton tires from the U, while both Ferraris toured with only S. Some drivers will do Q2 with S to start with because the U seem to degrade pretty fast.

Renault is the new Honda 2017, turbo failure, a miracle of mechanics' RBR to change the engine just 3 mn before the end of Q1. All the problems are on a team and specially Ricci

V4 pole, new record of the circuit. Temperature not the best for MB. A real battle lost by Stuutgart/Brackley

Sets of tires available for race GP F1 China 2018

It seems to me that the "Diva" is still there at AMG MB W09. Too hot is not good, too fresh, it's not good ! the window opportunity of the tyres by MB seems very short ! in the opposite direction, Ferrari seems at ease everywhere !

Tomorrow, just one stop for the 4 leaders
