Spec Corvette racing has arrived to Corvette Forum
Spec Corvette is a new racing class started in southern California and expanding to other parts of the USA.
The class philosophy for Spec Corvette is to promote the equal competition of the C5 generation cars with a build that is under $20,000 not inclusive of build labor. Performance benchmarks on the car are targeted to be very similar to what 2010 SCCA T1 Corvette specifications could achieve. For example laps time at Willow Springs International raceway under 1:30. Streets of Willow Springs under 1:19 and under 1:50 at Auto Club Speedway ROval. A tight, but fast and competitively set of car specifications will allow Spec Corvette cars to easily cross over to SCCA T2 and NASA ST class racing. The philosophy behind several of the car specifications may add to the cost of the initial car build, but consideration have been made for active racing of a Spec Corvette. For example, choices to spec coil-over shocks were made not only for performance consideration, but on the belief that 20 year-old cars will have worn shocks and monoleafs ready to delaminate. Another example are the a-arm bushings. Old bushings in the A-arm will require compromises on camber settings and cause premature tire wear under racing conditions. The SCCA 2017 GCR is the guiding set of rules for Spec Corvette racing rules, except for those rules that pertain to car configuration and set-up. Spec Corvette will run at varying racing venues and under varying sanction organizations where we are permitted to race. When not racing with SCCA, the sanctioning body rules for event management will supersede SCCA rules. All racing and car rules for Spec Corvette are subject to change at any time and subject to interpretation of the Spec Corvette Competition Committee as appointed from time to time by the founders of the series.

Spec Corvette is now a Supporting Vendor. Although Spec Corvette as an organization is really more like a club since the race organizations are the ones who charge the money for the races and no fees are kicked back to Spec Corvette, a few of us have decided to dip into our pocket books to pay to be a Supporting Vendor on Corvette Forum as to not skirt any rules or fall into grey areas. We do so because we are race-pacius enthusiasts.
Please support us in our efforts.

Well I don't make brake pads but I know some who do
I did make what I think is pretty good kit that fits C5Z OEM wheels and uses 20mm thick pads and 1 or 2 piece rotors that are cheap and hard to break....and I have a semi-decent reputation with most of the pad manufacturer's.
....still pissed at the game yesterday....sorry!

I think SpecCorvette is a great platform for a lot of manufacturers to jump on board to prove how good their products actually are. Hell, Powerstop would be smart to use this as a marketing campaign and give at least one set of pads per season to each SpecCorvette race car. If they can survive the track with the stock sized brakes, you can't get better marketing than that....again, assuming they survive, perform and last a reasonable length of time.
Happy racers help sell a lot of parts.

Does Spec Corvette allow or prohibit an upgraded timing chain and/or chain damper?

- The change improves performance at little or no cost and the total build cost stays under $20,000
- The change doesn't affect performance, but it improves reliability or reduces the total cost of ownership.
Your inquiry might fall into the latter category.

Thanks. That seems like a really wise way to do the rules.

The Spec Corvette guys did a great interview on the slip angle podcast. I recommend checking it out for those who are following the series like I am.

Racer
After attending one of the Spec races at Willow Springs I will say this is a great bunch of racers. Very friendly and more like a family in the way they helped each other out. Just the way its suppose to be.

Is there a list of recommended modifications, beyond the required stuff on the build sheet at the web site?
