Auto Club Speedway (Fontana) advice

One key advice for T3 braking. Stay at least 1 car width away from outside wall under braking. This gives you the best setup for late apexing T3 (needed to hit T4 correctly), and gives you some clearance to the wall incase the ABS gets squirrelly.

Billy Johnson has a good guide to ACS.

Nice laps in some stock C5Z's by bellwilliam and wtb-z!
I recently completed a race weekend at ACS. My C5 is built for GT2 and doesn't really hit much higher speeds than a stock C5Z but has a wing/splitter and many other upgrades. The most effective being my brakes; Essex AP Radicals which I give a ton of credit for helping me get pole position both days and first place overall both days including the GT1 cars in our group. In my car there is no lift for Turn 2, just full throttle from entering the oval to turn 3. You will only have to lift for Turn 2, not brake. If you haven't driven an oval it will take some time to get used to the extra grip. Here's a short vid on my qualifying laps:

Charley, I know about the track entrance protocol, this was video was done for a Chevy C7 intro event, when there were no other cars on track. But your right in staying below the line for the track entrance and low the shorter route. For me it really depends on the car and setup.

I have to correct my turn numbering. What I called turn 2 is turn 3. I keep calling the hole bake turn 1, and not braking in to two sections.

Thanks guys! My car is not really setup for high speed tracks. If you've seen my car you know what I mean; it has a lot of drag with big panel gaps and open vents in the front and no effort has gone into making it streamlined for high speed. Another thing about my qual session is that I was scrubbing in new tires so I had to be careful not to overdrive the car and there was a head wind going down the main straight. Hoosiers maintain grip a lot longer if you properly scrub them in and gradually build heat into them, but you have to be careful not to slide them too much the first heat cycle. Then after 24 hours they are good to go .

Thanks for all your advice! I drove ACS yesterday.
Well, it's been a long time since I've been scared in a car, but Turn 2---that $#@$ was scary, LOL! I wish I had another day to take a crack at it. I'll definitely have to come back as soon as I can.

I was there in the blue Z06. I thought you were in the GT350 and the Super Miata? Did you bring your Z06 the next day? I could only attend Saturday.
Looks like early April is the next event at ACS. I'm going to do the whole weekend this time. Hope to see some of you guys out there!

Well now I'll definitely have to come back so I can try to beat your time, LOL! Yeah, a sub 1:50 was my goal, but my fastest was a 1:54. I need to get my @#$@ together in the slow, technical stuff, and I need to not wimp out in Turn 2. But I'm looking forward to the challenge next time.

I was out there Saturday. First time in the Z06 at autoclub. Showed up a bit late and only got in 7 laps, but got into the 46s before the car was at 280 oil and had to call it. Going to need an oil cooler asap. I was in the Silver 2016 Z06 with the carbon hood.
