Track day on super sports c7 z06?
Going to do my first track day pretty soon with my car after doing the Corvette owner School. What do you guys think of running it with the factory Super Sports vs getting a set of cup 2?
will I get more total laps from a set of take off cup 2? These are also really expensive but if they last longer it makes sense. I can't decide on whether I want 18's or 19's so probably just going to stick with the stock size for the next few months.

Not sure if it helps at all, but I only got two track days out of my Cup 2s that came on my Z07.
I think the school at spring mountain uses the SuperSports so my guess is they probably last a little longer than the Cup 2s.

I went through mine quick. They just melt and get greasy. They also start to tear up and chunks come flying off. Even the Cup2 has that when you get them real hot. Michelin kinda sucks at heat.

So managing Tire temps through varied lap Paces is going to be a must otherwise I'll just be destroying the tires

Your OE Super Sports will be just fine for your first track days.
After you've done 4 or 5 HPDE's you can start to think about some Sport Cup 2's.
IMHO, for your first track event in the car, you should be more concerned about getting some track brake pads.
Make sure you flush in a good DOT 4 brake fluid, and swap in some Mobil 1 15W-50, or if you can get it the new 0W-40.
I have a Z07 so it came with Sport Cup 2's, but I also have another set of wheels with Super Sports and have run them on the track. They are a VERY GOOD tire, and will work well for you until you've got a bit more experience and start to run them a lot harder.

I agree. You will never outdrive your Super Sports as a new tracker. No way. The brake fluid is the biggest thing you should worry about. Change oil to either of the listed above. Good to go.

There's a guy I see at the track all the time with a C7Z and he is always running Super Sports. I'm faster than he is but I bet he is doing well over 50 track days a year. I don't have a ton of track experience with them but I might try them at VIR next week if my scrubs run out.

If you're not going all out for lap after lap after lap they will do fine enough. But if you plan on going hard for 10+ minutes at a time, they will show their weakness.
Like stated above. You need to manage heat with street tires. Do 3-4 fast laps but also 1-2 medium laps. Traffic will do this for you automatically.

My second day was at Chuckwalla 5, 30 minute sessions. Cooler temps. The tires were pretty much done after the 4th session. I lost all grip in the front and I took it real easy in the 5th session as I needed to drive home and didn't want to cord the tires.
They did not come apart or cord. They were just very worn on the outside edge. Fronts were really bad.

This is Andrew Aquilante on Super Sports. These lap times are faster than the current rules SCCA T1 lap record at this track.
T1 Dave Sanders Chevrolet Corvette 1:09.124 98.95 10/23/16
You will be fine using them.
Interestingly I am quicker in my Wife's Grand Sport on Super Sports than the current T2 lap record and I am not all that good. lol!!

Use the PSI read out on your dash, you can feel when your tires go greasy and note the PSI. Lower the PSI and try to keep the PSI lower than the greasy point. You can use the gauge to let you know a lap or two before you hit the limit and do some cool down laps.

I cant do any more comparisons since now I got aero now, track alignment, some other mods.

Ok, hunting down a set of super sports to run on a brand new set of satin cup wheels.
i had wanted to go to 18 or 19's to drop 25lbs or so vs the cup wheels 10lbs savings and run scrubs or the toyo r888r but i am taking too long to decide on that setup.
this will at least get me on track without destroying my current set of MPSS on my factory Spectra grey z06 wheels. Then i can upgrade to the sport cup 2 later while i decide on 18's or 19's.

Unless a class requires it, I can't think of any reason to run 19s over 18 for track wheels.
