Default The "Will This Seat Fit In My Car?" thread

Folks,

An often asked question when it comes to installing a race seat in one's car is "will this damn thing fit?" or "how do I make this damn thing fit?" You often don't want to be the first guy to try and put a seat in a Corvette, so you spend hours bouncing around the Internet to see who else has made it work. I myself have two customers having problems right now, one of whom is trying to stuff a seat with a 500mm base into a C7 with our mount with much consternation. I would have told him I don't think that's ever been done before had he mentioned it to me, but then again I haven't searched the internet for hours trying to find out.

SO, let's try and consolidate all of our seat mount data into one thread. That way anyone who's installing a seat will be able to look here to see if it was done and how it was done. I'm thinking if we can keep it in some set format it will make the data easier to peruse. Just copy and paste this into your response and fill in the blanks. Please see below:

Simple enough? If there is anything anyone thinks should be added please let me know. I'll start first below. I think this will be a good way to take the guess work out of a lot of people's interior plans. I hate selling something to a customer and then they have issues because I can't possibly know everyone's setup.

Generation, Year, and Model: C5 2004 Z06
Driver Seat: Sparco EVO II US
Driver Mount: AMT Ultralow
Driver Sub Belt: AMT Ultralow
Passenger Seat: None
Passenger Mount: None
Passenger Sub Belt: None
Harness Bar or Cage: Full Cage
Interior?: Completely stripped
Carpet?: None
Driver: 6', 33'' waist
Stock Belts in car?: No
Notes/Pics: Sparco EVO II US is basically jammed up against the transmission tunnel. Seat base is 440mm wide. I don't see how you could get a wider seat in a C5 without trimming the seat. This is also a race car only, and had I done it again I would have gotten the normal Sparco EVO II so it would be a little tighter on my hips.

Here's an install video with the Ultralow Mount and a Sparco QRT-R.

Generation, Year, and Model: C5, 2003 Z06
Driver Seat: OMP - HTE-R 400
Driver Mount: MTI rails
Driver Sub Belt: Drilled the rails and mounted eye bolts
Passenger Seat: Sparco EVO II US
Passenger Mount: custom fab mounts (not adjustable and have the seat as far back as possible). 1/8" flat steel bent to make it work.
Passenger Sub Belt: A cross bar has eye bolts for the sub belts
Harness Bar or Cage: Cage now, but these were in place with a full interior too
Interior?: Not anymore, but these seats were in the car with a full interior (didn't use the stock seat belts)
Carpet?: gone
Stock Belts in car?: I used to swap race seat with OEM seats and used the stock belts..I quickly gave that up.
Driver: 5'11" - 35" waist ...205 lbs (does this racecar make me look fat???)

Notes/Pics:
Front of the drivers seat touches the tunnel. The driver seat is as far rearward and dropped down as far as it will go. I removed the rear factory seat studs and and replaced with a bolt pointing down. The nut is on underside of the car.

Helmet space at a premium with the cage and padding

Looking down the backside of the driver seat. The black square bar is reinforcement for the seat mount location. The red belts are just the extra length that is not rolled up.

Looking down at the driver side. You can see the bolt for the sub-anchor mounts that are bolted to the side of the seat rails.

Front of driver seat touching the tunnel. It worked with a full interior too. The black square bar is reinforcement for the seat mounts the cage builder installed.

Great thread, thanks for starting it. Hoping to see some feedback on a sparco circuit II

Heres mine
Generation, Year, and Model: 2002 C5 Z06
Driver Seat: Sparco Evo II US
Driver Mount: MTI
Driver Sub Belt: Vetteworks
Passenger Seat: Sparco Evo II US
Passenger Mount: MTI
Passenger Sub Belt: Vetteworks
Harness Bar or Cage: Brey Krause Harness Bar
Interior?: Full Interior
Carpet?: Yes
Stock Belts in car?: No, the bottom reel by the door sill does not fit with the MTI rail and the seat mounted as low as possible
Driver: 6'1" 230# dad bod, need to get my *** on an elliptical.
Notes/Pics: Stock belts don't fit like mentioned above. BK Harness bar required modification, there is a bar that runs from the bar to the floor. The hole needs to be opened up for the stud extender to fit. Decent amount of interference from the vetteworks sub belt mount and the nut for the stud extender. A set of large crows foot wrenches (1" & 7/8") helped quite a bit.

Driver Sub Belt: Arizen
Passenger Seat: Stock
Passenger Mount: Stock
Passenger Sub Belt: None
Harness Bar or Cage: yes
Interior?: Full

Stock Belts in car?: Not when racing seat was being used.
Driver: 6’ tall, 245 lbs, 38” wait
Notes/Pics: This was in a duel use car where I used the stock drivers seat / belt for daily driving and put the seat and 6 point harness for track days. It only took about ten minutes to make the swap.

Note that the roll bar and shoulder harness wasn’t installed for these pictures
Charley

Here is how I simulated the seat so the air bag would work for the trip to the track. I used Vetteworks Simulators. But, the normal installation requires pulling the stock harness out of the stock seat. To make the switch out easier I ordered a replacement seat harness from one of the forum vendors. Seat harnesses can be ordered two ways....with heat and memory....or without. The harness without heat and memory is only. In addition to the harness you will need three plug in simulators (two for pre '08 cars). One simulator is for the seat airbag, the second is for the seat position sensor, the third (for '08+ cars) is for the seat belt pretensioner.

Here is a picture of the three simulators. The two yellow simulators (airbag and pretensioner)fit together and make one plug. The black plug attaches to the harness and simulates the seat position sensor.

Here is a picture of the harness (without heat and memory).

Here is a picture of how I modified the harness. You only need the pink and green wires going to the seat position sensor (or simulator in this case)

This is what the seat area looks like with no seat. The yellow plug is for the seat airbag (and pretensioner in '08+ cars). This is where the two yellow simulators plug in. The wide black plug is where the harness plugs in for the seat track simulator. The black simulator plugs into the other end of the harness.

This is the only picture that I have that shows how the shoulder harness was installed. This was Mick Fleetwood driving my car.... not me. ( petty bar was not installed at the time).

I started a thread in the z06 section. It's here https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1596815858
I'm pretty sure I'm the reason Mark started this thread. I sent him pics in the beginning and it didn't look like it was going to work out.

You often don't want to be the first guy to try and put a seat in a Corvette, so you spend hours bouncing around the Internet to see who else has made it work.

Curious how you were able to route the stock seatbelt on the Grid II through the outboard lap belt hole? Did not realize the retractor could fit through.

the retractor will not fit through the belt hole.

i unwound the seatbelt and then fed it through. Took about 10 minutes per side. I’m very happy with the result.
