DRM oil cooler is one of the most popular setups. The bracket they include installs it just in front of the radiator.

Mine is mounted in front of the radiator as well. I made my own kit... Setrab 625 cooler, Improved Racing block adapter w/oil thermostat, 10AN braided lines, Raceflux heat sheathing over the braided lines. And I fabricated my own mounting bracket from sheet metal (fairly simple).

Here's an install video I did. Kinda long but hopefully will give you some ideas.

I had Randy at DRM set me up with Satrab 925 instead of the 625. It dropped my oil temps 40 degrees. It's not on their web page.

Yep, DRM 625 is an awesome cooler, go 925 if you are significantly over stock power or live in the hotter climates. 625 worked great for me in a 500 HP LS6, with a monster radiator, but I only hit tracks up in the North East.

We have a C5 oil cooler kit in development which should be ready in the next few months.

We carry those Setrab coolers as well as our own coolers we have developed over several yeas of R&D, which are a little more efficient.

The MHX-514 is very similar in cooling performance to a Setrab 625, but it's smaller, lighter, allows more airflow through it and has a lot more oil capacity. It's also designed to minimize potential leak points.

What mounting position do you plan on using for your kit?

I'm leaning towards the license plate area since I don't need a front plate. Trying to decide if I should piece together my own setup or get a kit.

Currently we plan to mount it in the front grill area, behind the license plate. Our kit may allow a couple of different locations.

It's pretty simple to piece together your own kit. You have to make your own bracket, but it's also pretty simple. Email us or give us a call, we've had several customers put together their own kits and we can supply you with everything you need.

I've had good luck with these coolers from Summit, 40% the cost of Setrab
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-331110

I've done coolers in the front license area, but it's hard to get good through-put. The air that goes into the cooler, has to have a place to go when it exits, and it's usually hard to control. I've come back to running the oil cooler ahead of the radiator, but doing everything possible to seal the shroud so that every bit of air is taken advantage of.

I put mine horizontal behind the license plate years ago and it dropped temps 30-40 degrees on a stock LS6. It's an Earl's cooler and it's sealed. I think for a Spec Corvette build I'd try behind the screen, ducted, and with a louvered duct at the front of the wheel well to help exhaust unless that's dumb? Seems it'd be more protected that way.

Don't be tempted to do the integrated oil cooler radiator combination. I got what I thought was the best one, and still had to run an additional oil cooler in series to make an effective difference.

Several people on the forum swear by those things and claim what seems to be impossibly low oil temps. Temps can certainly vary from driver to driver, but still. I went stand alone myself and have yet to install it, but I do wonder what the real story is on the combined units.

Yup. Other threads convinced me, but I've come to believe do what the racers do. Some people don't push their car anywhere near it's limits.

Agreed. I just follow the racers as well. I get my oil temps up to 295-298 in 3-4 laps including an easy warm up lap. It was enough to convince me to go stand alone.

In my LT1 4th gen Camaro I run an AFCO with integrated oil cooler. A couple competitors seems to run cooler with just a stock radiator, both ducted and sealed like mine. I'm changing over to a stock radiator this winter and intend to add an air to air oil cooler if needed. Our cars only run 2260whp for reference. Miy coolant runs 180-210 depending on the weather, but as soon as I chase I'm 230+.

Has anyone tried mounting them horizontally, right under the hood vent (provided you have proper ducting from the radiator, etc)?

I saw it on a DTM car or something similar.
