Can someone smarter than me explain the purpose of the A/C machine connected to the #3 GTLM car in the picture below?

If I remember correctly they use components from the Chevy Volt and that it was actually lighter to air condition the cabin than to use a cool suit filled with ice and water.

As I recall the compressor was driven off the diff too rather than the engine.
