Ls7 road race refresh?

Ls7 road race refresh?
Just looking for some input/suggestions. I ended up purchasing a wrecked z06 from insurance auction at a price that makes piecing my race car back together feasible. I wasn't planning on another ls7, but long story short, thats what i have now. I don't really feel comfortable sticking whats technically a "junkyard" motor in my car to go racing despite the low mileage. I'm just wondering if I should ditch the factory titanium connecting rods, piston suggestions, etc. Keep in mind, this is a (at least in Ls terms) a fairly low hp build (my previous ls7 was mostly stock-heads done, headers, stock cam-still detuned almost 70whp for class). I will definitely be going with a real dry sump this time-no bandaid-ed factory "dry" sump.

The stock forged Ti rods should be more durable than anything else you can put in the engine. Being lighter than forged steel it seems they would also provide better throttle response. I would focus on the heads as they are the most problematic area on an LS7.

Well I put a rod through block on my last ls7....the heads were done with Manley stainless valves. I race wheel to wheel, this isn’t a track day build for what it’s worth

Did the old engine show signs of oil starvation?

Up until that race, no. The last blackstone report was stellar and literally said “keep up the good work”. However, that was my first and only time at lime rock. There is some pretty crazy compression on the uphill and especially on the downhill. I believe the compression on downhill at lrp oil starved motor.

your death of a race car thread said you were running a pan baffle? What brand? Crank scrapper? Oil tank insert? Type Motor oil? Did you ever pull the old engine apart? Top end was ok? Sorry for all the questions. New ls7 owner.

I had an improved racing oil pan baffle. I still like the improved racing baffle as it used existed holes. The car was an 09 with the larger tank. The car also had twin oil coolers. Oil was redline 40w. I’ve had a lot of guys contact me nervous about their ls7s. Keep in mind this car had penskes 2-ways, real aero on it, big Hoosiers, and was driven proficiently enough to be on or below track record pace. I should have gone to a Dailey dry sump but it seemed like what was on car was working well.

A steel rod won't perform any differently than a Ti rod when the bearing fails.

Im going with a Dailey dry sump system this time around. thats already a given. I was just answering questions from previous posts ^ , but being a forum I want to clarify i dont blame the pan baffle. its a nice piece for guys doing track days.
