Default 5th Gear

Anyone here ever use 5th gear? If so where? I’m also curious if anyone with a C6 Z06 has ever gotten to 5th gear with 4th being good to 162 mph. The only track i can think of with enough full throttle to exceed that would be Daytona.

Front straight at Roebling Road Raceway.

Just because you might be able to do 162 with your foot on the floor in 4th doesn't mean that you have to. There is no reason why you can't shift at less than maximum rpms.

agreed unless i was on a hell of a lap i would short shift at 6k or 6500. no reason for 7k, especially with the big cube 427. your just risking valvetrain and burnin gas for just turnin laps at a track day.

I second Roebling, probably back straight of Sebring too. I redline 4th at Roebling in my ZR1 with a 2.6 pulley and bolt ons.

Not surprised considering ZR1's have a ton of power, plus you added even more power and only need to get to 150 mph.

Yes i am aware. I'm generally talking about in an environment where the car is being pushed hard, not just simply puttering around.

I had to look up what TWS stood for. I then watched this video, the place looks like a lot of fun, a shame they closed.

I guess, if 162 in 5th instead of 4th is your idea of puttering around, then sure................

Yes. Ran full course last Sunday. Max speed on back straight was 154.6mph. LS6 with ported and polished 243 heads, BTR Stage 3 cam, headers, intake, and conservative tune. 416 whp, 408 wtq.

You have to remember that most of the time folks are talking about running on a track here they aren't talking about a single flying lap. Sometimes it's better to grab a gear than it is to run it out and wait for valve float and bounce off the rev limiter. Consistency and finishing matter more in a race than a single fast lap.
