What does Dion say? Race Driver Coaching Video from Racers360
Video of me getting some race driver coaching - What does Dion say?
Race Driver Coaching Video from Racers360Dion von Moltke is the coach in the video. He is a winner of the Daytona 24 Hour and twice at the Sebring 12 Hour races. I thought his points were good, and they explain some of my problems where I do notice I am inducing understeer.
I am curious what your thoughts and comments are regarding his comments. The style and effectiveness of this coaching method, what do you think?
This video is from my Wednesday qualifying session at the 2019 SCCA GT2 Runoffs race at Sonoma Raceway. Dion's company is Racers360.

Racers360 has several options. https://racers360.com/personal-online-coaching-options/
I did the $99 lap analysis with the $30 add on for a 30 minute consultation which I have not done, yet. I just ordered this today and got it back the same day.
I plan to do the other two options for data analysis and race craft coaching. The product I got back exceeded my expectations for $100.
He did not have data to prove under steer. I presume he is diagnosing that from his experience and what he sees on the video. I don't dispute his diagnosis. I think it is right because in my Trans Am races I have been struggling with my from tires going off around 60-70 miles into the race. I have been focusing on getting on the gas sooner, but I am not doing it the best way now that I hear his feedback. Bottom-line, I think he is spot on without the data.

I understand trail braking a little better than I did 15 minutes ago.

Thanks for sharing! It gave me some good ideas on how to analyze my corner exits. The one thing I found interesting was coasting in the carousel. I've never run Sonoma but I always thought you should have maintenance throttle in that situation to keep the car from becoming too "floaty". Maybe this applies more to cars running down force and sophisticated shocks than cars with a street/modified street configuration. I liked Dion's instruction stye and use of graphics. I've seen their ads on Facebook and wondered what the result would be. Now I know and once I get used to my new suspension set up I may give them a try. I agree the instruction value was very good for $100.

Wow I think this coaching video is great feedback. It's very detailed as to why the small changes with trail braking, line through the corners and when to pick up throttle help point the car in the direction you really want to go. After attending Bondurant twice now and they heavily focus on trail braking right away with students the advice from Dion to me seems spot on. But braking is probably one of the most difficult skills to master and do correctly to be fast. It's ironic how the most important pedal in the car to help you go faster is actually the brake! I think you definitely got your $100 worth but the real trick will be applying all of those tips he gave you without him being right beside you in the car to help you practice it every lap now. Thanks for sharing this. I think I learned a lot about proper cornering just from watching it myself and it wasn't even my driving he was critiquing.

I think I'm glad my local tracks don't have so many sweepers. His advice is the same as what my friend has observed from his coaching as well: a pro is either on the gas or on the brake. There is no waste. At one of my local tracks (Pueblo Motorsports Park) I have 2 turns that I feel I suck at (T1 & T4) and they're both sweepers. T1 for me is absolutely impossible to eliminate all waste, you can only trail so far before you're off in the weeds and I've yet found a way that I think is actually good. May be worth $100 to have him tell me. T4 is similar, though that one can be trailed deep enough to make it work.I just feel like I never make any money there.

I just did the coaching analysis too for Sonoma with Dion.... NASA discount is $10% so a hellvua value for $89! Great deal and will probably do followup sessions with him.

He can make due with any video but the more you give him the more you get back. I picked up 4 sessions from him in January when they had a sale going on, I haven't used them up yet but I am looking forward to it, I really like the way he puts it out there in a short video with only a couple of things to work on.

Very cool. I've been familiar with Racers360 and have watched most if not all their videos, but have never paid for analysis and may now. I agree (and sure they will) that the more data you have the better....gas, brake, steering, delta, etc. Another plus is multiple cameras that can show on track and driver inputs such as hands and feet.
Don't remember who the driver was, maybe Dixon, but Sunday's Indy race a driving coach was giving radio advice on "opening your hands more". Amazing, even the best in the world still get live advice like that, shows the importance of it.

Thanks for posting Oli. I thought the video feedback was great. The general comments and the turn specific comments seem right on point. Feedback at Sonoma is particularly timely for me as I will be at the track this weekend with NASA. Trying to get signed off on my license. I definitely will be applying your feedback into my driving this weekend. Thanks!
