Default C5Z autox/street fluids

Time to get all the fluids changed for upcoming race season. My previous 95 Camaro liked Redline 10w40 oil (mobil 1 5w30 gave me 5psi idle...) and Redline PS fluid to keep hot idle up and keep PS pump from whining. I would leave the Redline PS fluid in all year but I would change from Redline motor oil to Mobil 1 when winter came.

Ideally I use same fluids all year (brand/weight but changed at appropriate intervals). Car gets autocrossed in 90* temps and street driven in 30* temps and everything in between.

Looking for brand+weight suggestions.

I have a c5z and c6z with similar use. I am trying the M1 0w40 Euro blend, redline for the p/s, oem for coolant, the rest I would like opinions also.

The M1 0w-40 euro was something I found.

Other motor oil options were:
Royal Purple 10w40
Redline 10w40
Mobil1 10w40 (regular blend not High Mileage...IF I can find it)
Castrol GTX 10W40 (it's plentiful and $6.70/qt at Pepboys)

I’d like to find something at the parts stores local. The Redline fluid I had to source from a specific import shop from the next town over. Autozone around me carries M1 0w-40 for $9.50/qt. I was getting Redline for about $11-12.

No, but I may call them tomorrow. I came across the usual 5w30, some 10w40 and 0w40 options.

Many seem to like the readily available euro spec M1 0w40. I can find it at almost all local parts stores around me. Amsoil will need to be ordered online.

well, Red Line isn't something I struggle to get. I'm easy enough to find. As for Mobil 1. I am not a big fan myself, but actually have it in my C7 right now, but specifically 0w40 ESP (not Euro) it is what GM now approves for both street and track and as long as the car is under their warranty, I'll appease their demands. My GTI has Red Line 5/40 Euro. My Camaro has 10/40 Red Line in it. The only things that don't get it are the thing that don't get beat on or where, like with the C7, the warranty is very specific (Dexos 2 approval, etc).

Good replies.

Spoke to my local speed shop as well and decided to try all RP fluids. Went with heavier 10w40 motor oil, PS, trans ATF and 75w90 gear oil.

I don’t race A LOT, and I put more emphasis on the oil weight helping and Redline/Amsoil/Royal Purple are all decent oils. I learned my lesson running M1 5w30 in my Camaro and after doing more research seems like the weight is not really as asvertised. I also came across that 15w50 is suggested for racing but for the monthly autocross I felt it was overkill for dual purpose.

I’ll be keeping an eye on oil pressure/temp and any PS pump whine etc. Will be the first time racing a LS car (not first time owning one) so some things will be learning curve.

I have some spare Redline PS fluid I may toss in our tow pig.

I ran the 0w-40 Euro Formula in my LS6 for <1000 miles (1 season), 80% track and got back excellent reports from Blackstone. Car doesn't burn oil, no catch can, stock PCV. 45k on motor w/ cam, tune, headers, intake, etc.

Yes. everyone needs to wrap their head around the fact that 0 wgts and 5 wgts do NOT stay that same wgt at over 200f oil temps. The original multi wgt oils (1954 Phillips 66) were not that great but that was over 60 years ago. When I recently moved from 5w to 0w my oil pressures based on vehicle gauges are (across all temps) HIGHER by maybe 10 psi than before. I would no longer put 10 wgt in any of my Vettes, and I don't care what GM or the owners manual says.

Update after my first autocross. It was a T&T getting almost 20+ runs ~75* all day. Sometimes only sitting for 5 min in between runs. Car was only shut off maybe 3 times all day. ZERO issues!

I may have made this a bigger deal than I should have. Coming from a 95 Camaro Z28. fluid selection was important.

Oil pressure stayed around 30psi hot idle, oil temp never got above 220* and coolant temp hovered around 215-230. It's nice when things just work in stock form lol.

So far I'm happy.
