Watkins Glen IMSA on NBC?
So I turned my the TV to NBC Sports at 600pm CDT to watch the Watkins Glen IMSA race and what do I see but NASCAR. It is now almost 800pm and NASCAR is still on. Does anybody know what the hell is going on?

The NASCAR race was rain delayed. So we got unfortunately pushed back. NASCAR race is over so IMSA should be airing soon. The IMSA race has been over since 3:45pm EST.

Yeah, it's on now. 2 hrs 45 minutes to go. Thanks for the update, though..(I cheated and peeked to see how it went already, but I'm not telling.)

Terrible GTLM coverage. All we ever saw was DPi.
Wonder how we could have done if both Vettes were competetive. #4 got taken out on the first lap by, you guessed it, a Porsche.
Great race by the #3.

If you have a tablet/iPad download the NBC SN app and you can see the races in streaming. I hooked my iPad to my TV and was able to see it on a large screen (there is a lightning to HDMI adapter) in real time.
As to coverage, lousy as usual. IMSA (and ACO) use Corvette for advertising but the broadcasts are always prototypes. In this case it was DPi and GTD, the other cars were just there to be in the way.

I never did see what happened, as the crappy streaming coverage started about 5 minutes late for me...

FYI -- another chance
NBCSN will be airing the race (last 3 hours w/earlier recaps) from 2 - 5 pm eastern today.
Here's a 15 min recap including the 1 st lap incident.

Both cars could (should) have avoided it, but I wouldn't call it the #4's fault. In fact, Tommy did the right thing and gave the Porsche a car width's room. If you look at the entire sequence, the Corvette was ahead going into the turn (with part of the Porsche still next to the Corvette). Tommy stayed wide to give him some room and the Porsche tried pass on the inside. Only problem was, the Porsche was going to fast to use only the car width Tommy left him and exited the turn pointed wide. Tommy left him enough room if the Porsche was going the right speed, but the Porsche needed more and Tommy kept his line. Either Tommy needs to give him more room, or the Porsche needs to realize at that speed, he can't stick the turn properly because the track out room isn't going to be there. (EDIT: I should note that it would be rare that a professional racer would move way off line to help a competitor complete a pass....you would do that only if you were trying to avoid an incident, which in hindsight he was, but he obviously didn't think so at the time).
Here's the sequence, notice how the Porsche is pointing across track at time of incident (last picture)instead of where the car should have been.
The other interesting thing is in the same sequence you see the BMW pass the #3 Corvette. That was done just a tad earlier and the #3 fell in line right behind the BMW. The 15 feet or so later the Prosche tried to pass was all the difference.
