Default Bought a new track toy

In my quest for more track time, but not go bankrupt, I went to a much lighter platform. I bought a 125cc Exprit shifter Kart (Tony Kart). It weighs in at a massive 175 pounds and makes 43 HP! The kart is insane! 0 to 60 in the 3 second time frame and up to 3 g’s In a corner! And as direct as it gets. I gave myself a slight tear in both rotator cuffs (existing issues from crashing motorcycles) just trying to turn the thing with all its grip and power. My god what a machine! Its the most direct and brutal vehicle I’ve ever driven. It was my first time in a kart other than some rentals I did back in the day. I have a lot to learn! I was able to get with 7 seconds of the race pace at Sonoma’s kart track. I’ve never been so happy to be so far off the pace. It was hard lol. I must say, trail braking is so much easier with left foot braking. My brain getting confused in the first couple outings found me stabbing the brakes st horrible times as if it was a clutch. Had a couple spins lol.

The main reason for my kart was cheaper consumables and more track time. I now have access to my own track! Unlimited access to Dixon Kart Track is just $350 a year with my own key card. Sonoma’s kart track is $60 for a full day and $40 for a half day. I found 20 mins in a kart is Fing brutal! Consumables are so much cheaper. Tires are $200 for a set of four. Brake

pads are $32 and rotors are $100! Down side is I have to rebuild the top end every 5 hours to push 43 HP out of .1 litters. But the piston rebuild kit only costs $120 . So I have found me a way to go faster than my GS at a fraction of the cost. I plan on going racing next year. I highly recommend checking out karting if you have a good track and support in your area. It’s so fun!!!

Congrats! I ran a 125 shifter lay down enduro for a few years in early 90's . It was a blast. Hour long races on real road courses.

Karts are a blast. I've done 80+ lap days in mine and you feel like gumby at the end of the day. 3Gs in the corners will do a number on your neck when you first start.

Definitely the best bang for the buck in terms of wheel to wheel racing. You will also find that chassis tuning on them is a art all in itself.

The Amount of things that affect tunning the chassis are insane! It’s a bit smaller than the C7 and sits on the ground

Love karting. Not at that level yet, I have a Birel with a KT100 motor. Fast, fun, humbling, etc. etc. My club just rebuilt their kart track and it is nice. This is opening day so still working on the grounds but gives you an idea of the track layout,

Don't think many people appreciate just how brutal fast / violent a 125 shift kart is?

I am jealous, have wanted one since I quit racing and my sponsor put me in one as a teaser.

Kartin is definitely where it's at. Ricky Taylor seems to have a track at his dads house it seems...he and his people battle frequently...I think it's a great form of motorsport, very direct and connected, really makes you work on being smooth. Like you said too, hell of a lot cheaper.

I race gokarts too. It’s like wrestling an alligator. Got to adjust the brakes, I hit brakes like in my race car & brakes lock up & I spin
