Default Looking for 1966 Corvette

Hi

I am looking for information regarding a 1966 Corvette Roadster my father owned years ago. I was referred to this website by someone who had responded to an ad I had on craigslist.

It was last seen years ago when sold into northern Jersey from NY. Past colors include: Red, Metallic Green, and yellow (in that order). At that time it was a small block car, with 4 speed trans, big block hood, and rear fender flares.

This car may have been converted into a drag car with a big block, as my father and I saw one modified in this way that had some of the characteristics above. It was black, with the bumpers and lower turn signal lights removed.

I curious as to whether this car still exists or not. If you think you have seen this car, or know what has become of it, please let me know.

Thanks

Default Check the C2 Registry

Check the C2 Registry for the VIN.

Try contacting the MVD in New Jersey, and then in surrounding states and asking if you can do a search of registration records with the VIN. Different states have different rules but it used to be possible, at least in some states. Now with privacy laws it may be more difficult, but still worth a shot.

You may also want to join NCRS and post a free ad (and keep it running) in their "Driveline" newsletter. They have an "information wanted" section specifically for searches like yours, and also for current owners looking for past owners and information about their cars. Who knows, the current owner may even be looking for you! Check out www.ncrs.org. Good luck!

Hi

Thanks for all your responses, I do have the vin. I have tried on the local craigslists to see if anyone knows anything, but people just keep pulling my chain and then flagging the listing.

In regards to going to NJ, I tried this, drove to trenton and waited for a while. After the folks had me waiting for the results of a lein search that the insisted was the correct file, the returned with a bunch of papers. When the asked why I was inquiring, they said: Sorry cant release it for that. At least they gave me back the processing fee.

I am left to assume the car still exists, but that is as far as I have gotten.

I searched the C2 registry, and did not see it there. I guess I could try the NCRS as it never occurred to me.

Thanks again

Qucik update:

After recieving an address of the last known owner in NJ, my Dad and I took a drive to the man's house to see if he knew the whereabouts of the car.

He said he had sold it in around 1999 to a guy in south jersey with a shop of some sort. At the time he sold it, it still retained the flares but was canary yellow, had the seat raised with wood blocks, points were changed out for electronic ignition, and an extra leaf spring was added.

The search continues.

Hi

Still no success. Tried the public data thing as recommended, but came up as a no hit in the states it works for.

I have asked my dad to find some pictures of it when he had it, but so far he hasn't been able to find any. Also, I have tried to post the photo I have, but am unsure how to do it on this forum.

I'm still trying to figure out why the last hit in NJ came back to a guy who said he sold it to another guy in NJ about ten years ago. Before speaking to the fellow, I stopped by the NJ DMV and they pulled a file of records for me, but didn't like my reasoning of trying to locate my father's old car, and put it back with the other records.

Any ideas?

Default Your car search

Richard, UStrace.com is another fee based 50 state VIN search. If the car is registered or recently registered, this should provide results. I have only used this once, without luck, so I can't say that it is a sure fire thing. When my request came back without results and I asked for a refund, they stated that it is a 50 statewide search and that my vehicle must have been either totaled or exported, or possibly owned locally in the US but not registered in the past 7-10 years. For me it was worth a $40 gamble to see if I could locate my past car.

Good luck...

Michael

I would try the NJ DMV by mail now that you know they have a file on it. I did this in PA where I was tracking down a previous owner and filled out the forms and checked the appropriate boxes. Obvioulsly you know not to say b/c it was my Dad's old car. There should be a form and may take a few weeks, but assume the info is there. Just need to play their game....

Hi

Sorry it took so long to reply, I've been having some trouble logging in. I am going to try both of your pieces of advice. I am wary of the internet data searching, but you never know what it may turn up. Do you know how old the records are on it?

I have had the NJDMV send up a copy of the appropriate forms to fill out for the information. Hopefully something will turn up.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Well, we still haven't found a photo of my dad's car when he owned it, but I have attached a photo of a car that we saw at a car show a few years ago that he suspects may have been his.

It is the black corvette in the background.

If the photo hasn't loaded it probably means that the geocities cite has been overloaded, but it should work again later.
