Just beautiful. This IS what they cost, now, in this kind of condition. Nothing to do but drive it and enjoy life. Wish mine looked this good.

Did '56s have chromed or painted headlight rims? If this is still for sale, I'm surprised- it is a really lovely car.

Jim, the short answer is yes. I don't recall how many, but some of the first '56's off of the production line did have painted headlight rings.

According to my NCRS guide, it depends on the serial number. My car is correct with unpainted chrome rings.
I have not advertised the car anywhere except here so it has gotten limited exposure.

So it must be an early VIN to have the painted headlight rings.

I think he meant it has chromed ones. I have no idea where the changeover point was. Either way they look cool and this is just a really lovely car. I would find it quite difficult to part with a car like this, I am not surprised he hasn't put it for sale elsewhere.

Jim, you are absolutely correct. I miss-read his statement. He does have the chrome headlight surrounds as you say. Thanks for catching this.

From the NCRS 1956-1957 Judging Manual

Very early 1956 Corvettes to approximately serial 1360 have chrome headlamp bezels over-painted exterior body color. From serial number 1360 to approximately 1600, headlamp bezels may be either painted or unpainted chrome in matching sets. Remainder of 1956 production through 1957 use chrome bezels exclusively."

Remember that the first 1956 corvette has a VIN of E56S001001, so the first 360 or so cars have painted headlight rings, then a mix for approximately 361 to 600, the chrome after 600.

Bump for a beautiful car! I assume it isn't sold yet since it's still up.
