56 or 57 (my first vintage car!)
Hi, after years of lurking on the forum, I am ready to take the plunge and make my first ever vintage car buy. I am hoping to find a '56 or '57 for up to $60,000
Thanks from a new member.

Those cars look OK, but they sure sit funny. The '56 is way too high in back, and the '57 is way too high in front. And maybe all around. May or may not be a big deal.
Make sure whatever car you buy has a VIN plate in the driver's door jamb. Sometimes they're not included, and that IS a big deal.
You're making a great choice in the '56 or '57, but like all old Corvettes it's easy to make some mistakes in your first purchase if you don't know the cars well. Lots of folks here with good advice if you're not sure about a car you're getting serious about.
Good luck!

This '57 just posted by Bowtieguy in the "Opinions..." thread looks like a good deal.

I have owned a nice 57 for 12 years and recently purchased some knock off wheels and tires from Bow tie Guy in Limerick PA. If it is the same person, he is down to earth and seems very up front with his cars. I would not hesitate to investigate his 57. I think he wold give you the straight "scoop" on that car.

I like JohnfromVentura's black '57 listed here better though, and it's very near your price range.

No question. Johns black 57 listed in this forum would be a perfect 57 for a first time vintage Corvette buyer. He has already mechanically improved it with safer and more dependable options, he has already done all the hard, dirty and expensive work to make it look so beautiful. Never mind that the engine and transmission are not original. The 5 speed is the best thing you can do to a vintage Corvette of any year. Beautiful car at a very reasonable price. Go for it.

c6rod nailed it. All of the things he listed are things to like on this car, and the fact that California frames are usually perfect. I have a long list of things that are good about this car.
I don't know where you are, Sam, but if you want someone to look at it for you contact Boyan on this forum. He's in the area, and he's a good guy.

I have a 57 that I have done some of the same upgrades + a few more. The dollars add up fast and you don't have to spend the time and money you can drive it now. It is a DEAL if you want the improvements he has done. The first thing I would do to his car is paint the cove Inca silver to really set off the black paint.

Have you made up your mind yet? Every day you are missing out on the great feeling of owning and driving a vintage Corvette, not just any Corvette but a classic. Cross it off your bucket list.

I am considering selling my '56. Both tops. Excellent paint, chrome, interior. 350 GM crate motor. Front brakes converted to disc. 4 speed and rear end rebuilt per previous owner. Frame is solid. Has been blasted and painted. No rust ...HOWEVER ... has some dents (presumably from floor jack). Tons of receipts. Choice of mags or steel rims and poverty caps.
More pics here.
