Default What ever happened to Nickey Chevrolet?

My '65 came from Nickey Chevrolet in Chicago. I tried to research the dealership on the web, but can't find much info other than it's not around anymore (and that they built some monster Camaros and Chevelles back in the day). Does anyone know if it was bought by another dealership? Think there's any chance the sales records are still available somewhere? It would be a hoot to come across the car's original invoice.

So anybody out there up on the history of Nickey Chevrolet?

Thanks,
Thom

Nickey Chevrolet, Baldwin (Motion) Chevrolet, Yenko and Berger Chevrolet made available what the factory (mostly) never did. Special high performance optioned 427 Chevelle's, Nova's and Camaros. Not sure about special Vette's tho'. I used to dream of someday owning a 427 SS Nova by Nickey. Alas, I was too young and the times they were a changing. The only one left today is Berger and they are still doing some special packages.

Bet you could call Berger Chevrolet & they could give you some info on Nickey. Probably a good chance that some of the former Nickey employees now work at Berger.

4501 W Irving Pk Rd in Chicago Il 60641. I grew up 3 blocks from this place. My Fathers Car lot was @ 2468 Cicero/ Best Motors, and my uncles lot was @ 3900 Milwaukee, Triangle Auto Sales. Nickey Chevrolet owned by the Stephani Family became Keystone Chevrolet later to become Lynch Chevrolet. The Lynch family still owns the Chevrolet Franchise but the property has been Comcast cable for many years and is soon to become Condos. I have lived in the area all my life and know of no one that has any dealer documention. I know @ one time there were a few sales brocures on ebay. Best of luck on the search. Here are a few photos of what it looks like today:

Default Thank you

It's no surprise that this forum had the answers that I was looking for. Thank you all for your help - and TommyN, big thanks for the photos. So condos are going up on the site that was once Nickey Chevrolet... (sigh)...

I found that David Snyder print while I was hunting for info on Nickeys. It'd look good hanging next to the car in the garage - but it's kinda pricey. Did the dealership really look like that, with that big blue/white/orange sign out front?

Thank you again for the info. I guess I'll make a few calls to see if any of the old paperwork might still be around - you never know...

Yes that is a very accurate photo of the dealership circa 1970. It's hard to see in the small Snyder print, but the Complaint Mananger is there. This was a large Paul Bunyon like statue that looked like this:

I just purchased the Nickey print with light up signs @ the chevy vette fest fron this guy: arttronics.com
I am building a small (6 car) garage @ my Az home for some of the cars.

$327.00 in '66 dollars equals $1971.08 in today's purchasing power and $1100.00 in '66 dollars equals $6630.56 in today's purchasing power.

You can still buy a fairly potent small block with iron heads for under 2 grand:

...and a big block (502ci) w/aluminum heads, complete drop in for 6-7 grand:

What's old is new. I love the viseral feel of muscle cars of old but today is the "good old days" golden age of automobiles, we'll look fondly back on in another 20 years.

Tom - thanks for the link. Interesting reading. Tom Stephani is writing a book on the history of Nickey Chevrolet - I've gotta keep an eye out for that.

The Yenko site will provide lots of information on Nickey Chevrolet. Last summer at Road America/Elkhart Lake, the theme was Nickey Chevrolet. The owners of the company were there along with many rare Chevrolets and race cars that they sponsored. The Yenko site has helped bring Nickey Chevrolet back to life.

I am aware that this is an old thread but updating it might help members. Here is a Wiki link with some info. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickey_Chevrolet

NicKey Chevrolet was very involved with Corvettes and racing, They worked directly with Zora Duntov and had an SR2 Corvette race car along with the Championship winning 1958 Corvette of Jim Jeffords a.k.a "ThePurple Peaple Eater" and even some '63 Z06s

Lots of history. If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask and thanks to those who provided info prior.

Here's a link to a car busness in the suburban Chicago area called Nickey Performace (with the same backward K), which has a lot of information on the old Chevy dealership.

As a side note, back in the mid-60's while in high school, I worked for a Chicago area silk screen company that made dealer decals for both Nickey Chevrolet and Grand Spalding Dodge...wished I had the foresight to save some samples!
