Default C2 Speedo – Achilles Heel??

Years ago I spoke to the original owner of my 1966 who mentioned he had the speedo repaired on two occasions over a period of 55K miles. When I purchased the car the speedo was not working. I had the speedo rebuilt and it just stopped working after 5K miles, I pulled the cable out from the transmission end and it appeared to be well lubed. It appeared to have broken off at the square end that inserts into the speedo head. Is the C2 speedo inherently a weak point or is my Coupe just cursed with the speedo blues?

Speedos do give problems on midyears all the time.If the cable broke off the speedo head might be seized you'll want to twist the back of the speedo where the cable goes in and see if you can spin it freely. If not its gonna need to be rebuilt.
